We are thrilled to welcome Nese Mitchell to Stepping Stone of San Diego as our new Director of Development and External Affairs.

Nese brings eight years of experience in fundraising, communications, and community engagement across mission-driven organizations in legal education, the arts, and human services. Most recently she served as Assistant Director of Development, Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement at California Western School of Law, where she led multi-channel campaigns, managed leadership giving relationships, and partnered with institutional leaders to align fundraising with strategic priorities. Her work has been grounded in equity, housing stability, and access to education.

Nese holds an M.S.L. with a Business Law certification from USC Gould School of Law and a B.A. in Public Relations and Advocacy Communications from Old Dominion University.

In our 50th year, Stepping Stone is growing - in staff, in capacity, and in community reach. Nese joins us at a moment when that growth demands exactly the kind of relationship-building, storytelling, and sustainable funding strategy she has spent her career developing.

has named Stepping Stone this year's Spirit of Stonewall award recipient, recognizing organizations that have stood with the LGBTQ+ community over the long haul, or made an exceptional contribution in the past year.

We've been here since 1976. This award belongs to every person who has walked through our doors and every community member who made sure we could stay open. We are grateful beyond words.

Thank you, San Diego Pride. We will carry this with us.

Pride Month means something particular to us.

For nearly 50 years, Stepping Stone has been part of San Diego's LGBTQ+ community. Not just serving it. Part of it. Our community built this place, sustains it, and shows up for one another inside it every day.

This June, we celebrate the lives being lived in recovery, the people who chose to stay, and the community that keeps showing up. That's what pride looks like to us.
