Politifest is Voice of San Diego's annual public affairs summit, offering a crash course on the candidates, issues, and policies shaping the November ballot.

: Al Lejarde ('02) said, "From daydreaming on the steps of the Capitol during my Class of 2002 Washington, D.C. trip to flying over it as a Security Guard for Marine One, life truly came full circle."

As a second-generation Filipino American and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Al supported presidential lift missions during the George W. Bush Administration. After his service, he spent more than a decade helping military-connected families and formerly unhoused veterans through nonprofit work.

Today, Al serves as a federal employment specialist and, since 2019, as a facilitator for the Aaron Price Fellows Program, which helped inspire his own path of service.

📬🗳️ Civic engagement starts before your first vote! Fellows from all three classes came together for a Postcard Party, learning about the importance of voter participation while encouraging eligible voters to make their voices heard this election season.

Through the activity, Fellows explored voting barriers and discovered how they can make an impact in the democratic process, proving it's never too early to get involved. 💙

Class of 2029 spent the day exploring Balboa Park and learning about the cultural and educational institutions that serve San Diego. Fellows visited the San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego History Center, Mingei International Museum, Museum of Us, and Balboa Art Conservation Center.

Along the way, Fellows explored the park’s history and community impact, discovered career opportunities, and participated in hands-on experiences in zoology, paleontology, community science, historical archives, and art conservation. They also climbed the California Tower for a unique view of the park and San Diego.

It's a full circle folks! 🔄 Recently, you heard that alum Andi Tran ('19), supported Fellow Noah ('27) in his effort to intern at the Salk Institute. Now, Dr. Desiree Shapiro ('01) is welcoming Andi as she begins the UC San Diego dual degree MD/PhD program!

: Natalie LeGerrette ('09) is the new Executive Director & CEO of La Causa Service Clubs. She shared, “This work has always been personal for me. This organization has shaped who I am, and I do not take lightly the responsibility of carrying it forward.”

Natalie has been part of La Causa since the fifth grade and has spent her career building relationships with students and community members, developing programs, and strengthening the organization’s roots throughout San Diego County. At the heart of La Causa’s work is a commitment to empowering young people, helping them recognize their worth, and supporting public schools and their communities.

As Executive Director & CEO, Natalie is also honoring the legacy of her grandparents, Linda and Carlos LeGerrette, who devoted more than two decades to serving La Causa. Congratulations to Natalie on this exciting new chapter!
