The Equine Healing Collaborative The Equine Healing Collaborative was created to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery and person

The Equine Healing Collaborative was created to provide a path to recovery, self-discovery, personal growth, a re-connection with the natural world, and/or emotional insight and health. The EHC offers more than just traditional talk therapy and utilizes interventions such as equine assisted psychotherapy therapy, mindfulness, and mindful equine massage to promote health and quality of life for individuals seeking change. History: The inception of The Equine Healing Collaborative came when Jennifer Fenton, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist became certified in Equine Massage Therapy. During the process of certification Jennifer began to notice the healing power of simply being in the presence of equines. She also noticed that as she massaged and released tension in her equine clients, she too released the tension of her day to day work and began to experience new energy and passion for her work and life. Jennifer then began the path of researching and learning as much as she could about equine assisted therapy and how she could combine the practice of mindfulness and massage into this already proven therapeutic technique. Jennifer has a history of working with those who are least able to access or afford mental health services and has experience working with at-risk youth, individuals in crisis, and special needs children. She is certified and/or trained in several evidenced based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, Aggression Replacement Training, Client Centered Treatment Planning, Hostage Negotiations, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Mindfulness. Jennifer’s passion for helping those in need led her to the concept of forming a non-profit agency that will combine her passion for equines and her mental health experience. Her vision for this non-profit is to continue to treat those in need including; veterans, at-risk youth, special needs children, and many others seeking alternative treatments that promote mental and emotional health.

That dusty snout is a little masterpiece. 🐽

Pigs can pick up some smells that are far too faint for our noses to notice. They can even sniff out food hidden underground.

The round pad around their nostrils is sensitive to touch, a little like our fingers. A supporting bone gives the snout strength for digging, too. Smell it, feel it, dig right in.

At EHC, curiosity is part of caring. 💞

Learning how our animals experience the world helps us understand their needs and appreciate them for who they are—right down to those remarkable snouts.

Here’s to every sniff, nudge and patch of earth worth investigating. The world’s a more wonderful place with piggies in it.

The care our youth give Mickey reaches beyond one dog. 💜

At juvenile hall, time with Mickey creates opportunities to connect, practice patience, and build trust. Caring for him means paying attention to what he needs, working together, and learning how our own actions can help another living being feel safe.

Those everyday choices can shape the environment around them, too. A shared responsibility becomes a reason to encourage one another. A moment of frustration becomes a chance to pause and try again. Small acts of care make room for kindness.

As the youth work to be their best for Mickey, they’re helping build a better world in a very real way: through how they treat him, how they support each other, and the care they bring to their community.

Mickey has people showing up for him. Now he needs a home to carry that love forward. 🐾

Life at EHC comes with some good company: horses, miniature horses, a donkey, and a couple of pigs. 🐷

People and animals share the ranch. Time together and everyday care are part of what connects us.

In some sessions, you may spend time with an animal. Your therapist can help you explore what you notice.

That might mean noticing how you feel beside them or what catches your attention. Some sessions may also include feeding or light grooming.

They’re everyday acts of care that can help you get to know an animal.

Our bodies were built outside.

For most of human history we lived with dirt under our feet, sun on our skin, and the sound of wind and water around us. Our nervous systems still expect that. When we get back out there, they remember.

The research on this is solid, and anyone who has stood under a big oak or watched the ocean for a while already knows it in their body.

Nature is one of the oldest forms of healing we have. It’s free, it’s right outside, and it keeps working on us every time we show up.

Meet Micky 🐾

Micky is a sweet, steady dog who is ready for a home of his own.

Right now Micky lives and works at juvenile hall, where he helps youth learn compassion, empathy, and trust. Every day he shows up with an open heart. He greets each young person exactly as they are, and they learn what it feels like to be met with kindness and to offer it back.

Micky has given so much to these kids. Now we are looking for a family ready to give him a forever home.

If Micky has captured your heart, reach out to us through the link in our bio to learn more about adopting him. 💛

Paws in, everybody! 🐾

One Frenchie and his young teachers are helping build a kinder community at Monterey County Juvenile Hall.

In EHC’s Dog Program, young people get a chance to learn by teaching.

As Mickey’s youth trainers teach him cues and respond to his needs, they practice patience, clear communication and responsibility.

Those are skills they can use with friends, family and neighbors long after a training session ends.

Together with South County Animal Rescue and Monterey County Probation, we’re helping Mickey find a home. Along the way, this rescue dog is giving his young teachers a chance to lead with heart.

Horses live in the present moment. They read our breath, our posture, and the energy we carry into the arena. When we arrive honestly they meet us there.

This is connection in its purest form. A horse offers trust once we offer presence. Our clients feel this shift in real time. Shoulders drop. Breathing slows. A quiet bond forms, and with it comes the felt sense of being truly seen.

Gratitude grows naturally from that space. A patient companion who stays steady while someone finds their footing. These small moments carry deep meaning, and our clients carry them home.

Every day at The Equine Healing Collaborative, our herd reminds us that healing happens in relationship. We are grateful for each horse who shows up for this work, and for every person brave enough to walk in and meet them. 🐴💛
