This week we welcomed Monterey Jazz which is the educational program behind the Monterey Jazz Festival. The nonprofit has made great strides to extend their influence within the schools and hopes to continue this mission. Proceeds of the festival are a large part of this funding.

For those who did not attend, we also have some heartbreaking news sharing the passing of Rotarian, Past President Sam Linder. He passed away on May 5, 2026. His family had asked for privacy, which caused the delay in sharing. Please keep them in your prayers. As for Sam's Rotary family, we are greatly saddened to hear of his passing. Several Rotarians in our Club were very close to Sam, and we have fond memories of him. He was a steward in bringing the Relay For Life to Salinas over 25 years ago. There are plans to celebrate Sam at this year's Relay For Life festivities. I will be sure to share if I hear of anything sooner.

Next week (last meeting at One Main for Lorisa's year) we will have some new member inductions and Rotarian Collen Bailey presenting on the Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce. I'm especially excited to hear about the junior chambers program and meet the JC's. Many Rotarians are alumni of the JC's. Let's welcome them and show support for this new program. I hope to see you there!

For your calendar: Awards and Kick Out Night is Friday, June 19, 2026 5-7:00 pm. We are dark for Tuesday's lunch June 16, 23, and 30th. Next in person lunch is July 7th for President Ari's first meeting!

This week we had the pleasure of awarding the Mt. Toro Student of the year, Eulalia Garza. She was supported by her Grandmother and Daughter as well as Mt. Toro staff. We're proud of her accomplishments.

We appreciate fellow Rotarian Monterey Chief of Police Dave Hober and Retired Assistant Chief of Monterey Police Bill Clark's presentation on the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Task Force. It's incredible to hear about their work and the role science is now playing in their success. Thank you to the County wide program that helps provide closure to these victims families.

This week our program will be presented by Dr. Tim Albert of Salinas Valley Health. The topic will be AI, Innovation and Healthcare.

Congratulations to Rotary Club of Salinas and President Lorisa McKelvey Daye on being named Governor’s Overall Club of the Year for 2025–2026!
