We are saddened by the passing of Anne Bramers, a longtime friend and former Board Governor of Salinas Valley Health Foundation. For more than 30 years, Anne was a familiar and much-appreciated presence at Foundation events. She was an instrumental member of committees for Las Estrellas del Valle, Berries and Branches, Cherry's Jubilee, among others, always bringing her energy, humor, and no-nonsense spirit to the work. We are grateful for the many years Anne gave to the Foundation and our community. She left her mark in more ways than she probably ever realized, and she will be missed.

Salinas Valley Health Foundation is proud to announce that we have received a generous grant in the amount of $225,000 from Hospice Giving Foundation in support of Palliative Care and Spiritual Care at Salinas Valley Health

This generous gift will help to ensure that patients and families facing serious illness continue to have access to local care that not only manages pain and symptoms, but also honors emotional and spiritual needs during some of life's most difficult moments.

Hospice Giving Foundation has awarded over $34.9 million in grants for community-based support to promote personal choice, preparedness, and the highest standards of compassionate, dignified end-of-life care for individuals and their loved ones. We are so grateful to have them as a partner, and for their long time support of these vital services.

September is NICU Awareness Month. 💙

Every year, thousands of families face the unexpected journey of having a baby in the NICU. It is a road filled with hope, fear, love, and incredible strength. This month, we honor every tiny fighter and every family who has walked that path.

At Salinas Valley Health, our Level III NICU is equipped to care for our most vulnerable patients, and your generosity makes that possible.

Thanks to donors like you, our NICU is equipped with NicView cameras, allowing parents and loved ones to see their baby through a secure, private video feed, even when they cannot be there in person. Because no parent should ever feel far from their child.

Introducing the Karen Alfaro Memorial Scholarship 💙

Karen was a dedicated nursing student whose strength, determination, and beautiful spirit touched everyone around her. Even in her final days, she remained focused on her dream of becoming a nurse and helping others.

Though Karen passed away in September 2024, her legacy lives on through this scholarship. It was established by a generous gift in her memory to support local students pursuing healthcare careers, just as she did.

Scholarship Requirements:

- Be a Monterey County resident
- Be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited nursing or allied health program
- Demonstrate financial need
- Show commitment to serving underserved communities

Karen's legacy will continue to make a difference, helping future healthcare workers achieve their dreams and carry forward her passion for caring for others.
