🎷☀️ We’re still buzzing from last weekend’s Selby Avenue Jazz Festival!

What a day! The sun was shining, the music was incredible, and Selby Avenue was filled with families, friends, neighbors, and visitors enjoying one of St. Paul’s beloved traditions.

Between the great music, lots of fun, and beautiful weather, our favorite part was connecting with community. We had a chance to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people, and share more about ReConnect Rondo and our work.

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers and staff who brought their energy, welcomed community members, and helped us throughout the day. We couldn’t have done it without you!

And while the festival may be over, the connections continue. We’re excited to stay in touch with the new community members we met and keep building on the conversations that began along Selby Avenue.

Community. Culture. Connection. And some really good jazz. 🎶❤️

What a full-circle moment. 💛

Three years ago, on only her second day in Saint Paul, Joey Gebin first learned about the Rondo community during a visit to the Rondo Commemorative Plaza. This summer, she returned to that story in a much deeper way by joining ReConnect Rondo as a summer intern with our Special Projects team.

During her ten-week internship, Joey supported research, helped strengthen organizational processes, participated in community events, and contributed to an upcoming storytelling project. She also interviewed Rondo legacy families, descendants, and residents—hearing directly from community members about Rondo’s history, resilience, and hopeful future.

As Joey shared in her self-reflection:

“Systemic oppression is widespread, but the Rondo community is nothing short of resilient.”

Joey, thank you for listening to the community, honoring its stories, and contributing so thoughtfully to our work. We hope the lessons and relationships from this summer stay with you throughout your senior year at Macalester College and wherever your journey takes you next!

👀 Look! We have some new artwork for the office!

And the best part? Our community helped create it. ❤️

It’s been a BUSY summer in Rondo, and we’re not done yet! Throughout the summer, community members stopped by our booth, grabbed a marker, and added their own splash of color to an image showing the possibilities for Rondo.

And now... look at it! ✨

Bright. Colorful. Joyful. Full of life. Full of community. Full of Rondo.

So many different hands helped bring this piece to life, and now it has a new home in our office as a reminder of all the people, conversations, connections, and joy that have filled our summer.

Rondo looks pretty good in color, don’t you think? 💛💚💙❤️

And remember... summer isn’t over yet! ☀️

Community Update: Mark Your Calendars for September 11!

ReConnect Rondo has officially submitted our Rondo Restorative Development Neighborhood Area Plan to the St. Paul Planning Commission — outlining our vision for historic preservation, housing, resilient infrastructure, and anti-displacement support for families affected by I-94, all working alongside the proposed 21-acre land bridge.

This is your chance to make your voice heard before the plan moves to City Council, the Mayor, and the Met Council.

Young Voice. Big Impact.

Meet our summer intern, Riva Linga!

Riva is a rising junior with a passion for history, economics, and public policy. Her connection to Rondo began through National History Day, where she explored how the Interstate Highway System impacted communities like Rondo.

This summer, she took that passion beyond research and helped preserve history.
Through an oral history project, Riva has been capturing the voices and experiences of Rondo elders, residents, and community members, helping connect Rondo’s past, present, and future.

Riva brought fresh ideas, curiosity, inspiration, and so much joy to our team. It has truly been a treat to have her with us this summer!

We can’t wait to share what she’s been working on. You may even recognize a few familiar Rondo faces. 👀🎥

As the sun sets on another incredible Rondo Block Party, our hearts are full. 💛

Thank you to everyone who visited the ReConnect Rondo booth, shared your stories, asked thoughtful questions, and welcomed us into conversation. We especially loved meeting so many new community members and reconnecting with neighbors we've known for years.

Community is built one conversation at a time, and today was full of them.

A time was definitely had.

Rondo Days never disappoints!

From reconnecting with familiar faces to meeting new neighbors, our team and volunteers had an incredible time spending the day together. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, asked thoughtful questions, shared your stories, and kept us on our toes with great conversations. Those moments are exactly why we do this work.
