Governor Tim Walz has declared Sept. 13-19, 2026, Infant Mortality Awareness Week in Minnesota

On average, 320 infants die in Minnesota each year. Between 2020 and 2024, the top four causes of infant mortality were:

-Prematurity: 31.8%
-Birth defects: 24.9%
-Other perinatal conditions: 15.6%
-Sudden Unexpected Infant Death/Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: 13.3%

Together, these causes accounted for 85.6% of all infant deaths in the state. Every baby born in Minnesota deserves a healthy start and opportunities to survive, thrive, and reach their fullest potential. Learn more about MDH’s infant mortality reduction initiative that uses data to better understand factors associated with infant deaths and identify opportunities to help prevent them. https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/womeninfants/infantmort/index.html

HEY EVERYONE ITS WORKPLACE RIGHTS WEEK 2026

The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) is hosting the third annual Workplace Rights Week, Sept. 13-19, 2026. Workplace Rights Week in Minnesota is an opportunity to educate workers and employers about their rights and responsibilities in the workplace. Safe and healthy workplaces are what make our economy and communities strong, and it is important Minnesotans understand their workplace rights and are empowered to assert those rights.

DLI staff members will present informational webinars throughout the month of September to help people learn about their workplace rights.

For more information and to register, visit dli.mn.gov/rights-week.

Presentations for workers
• Sept. 17, from 2-3 p.m.: Conozca sus derechos laborales: lo que toda la persona trabajadora debe saber
• Sept. 23, from 2-3 p.m.: Know your workplace rights
Presentations for employers
• Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to noon: Guía esencial de la ley laboral para pequeños negocios en Minnesota
• Sept. 24, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.: OSHA recordkeeping basics
• Sept. 24, from 2:30-3:30 p.m.: Employment law basics for small businesses in Minnesota

At DLI, staff members are focused on education and outreach. When Minnesotans understand their workplace rights, our workplaces and communities are stronger. New events are being added regularly, so visit the dli.mn.gov/rights-week for the latest information.
