The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association and its members express their deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant Rich Free of the Elgin Police Department.

Sergeant Free passed away yesterday morning at the age of 44 following complications from an illness. Throughout his more than 11 years of service with the Elgin Police Department, he demonstrated unwavering professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to the community he served.

The Association stands in solidarity with Chief Lalley and the members of the Elgin Police Department during this time of profound loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Free’s family and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time.

Sergeant Free’s service and devotion to the profession of policing will be remembered and honored by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

In Memoriam: Officer Kendall Corder

The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association joins the Milwaukee Police Department and the broader law enforcement community in mourning the tragic loss of Officer Kendall Corder.

On June 26, 2025, Officer Corder was critically wounded in the line of duty while responding to a call about a person with a weapon. He and his partner were unexpectedly fired upon in an alley on Milwaukee’s northwest side. Despite the swift response of fellow officers and medical personnel, Officer Corder succumbed to his injuries on June 29, 2025.

Officer Corder, 32, served with honor and distinction for six years. He was known for his courage, professionalism, and deep commitment to protecting his community. His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the dangers our officers face every day.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Officer Corder’s family, his partner, and the entire Milwaukee Police Department. We stand with you in grief and solidarity.

The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association joins the Chicago Police Department and the entire law enforcement community in mourning the tragic loss of Officer Krystal Rivera, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last night.

Officer Rivera was a dedicated public servant who exemplified courage, compassion, and commitment to the safety of her community. Her sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the dangers our officers face every day and the strength it takes to wear the badge.

We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Rivera’s family, friends, and fellow officers. Her legacy of service and bravery will never be forgotten. We honor her memory and stand united in support of those she leaves behind.

The Kane County Chiefs of Police Association extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Chicago Police Officer Malissa Torres, who tragically passed away yesterday.

Officer Torres served with honor and compassion, and her loss is felt deeply throughout the law enforcement community. We stand in solidarity with the Chicago Police Department during this time of mourning.

Thank you to all of the nominees for the 2024 Kane County Officer of the Year Award. 26 Officers/Investigators from 10 different jurisdictions were nominated for their outstanding achievements last year. While they all deserve recognition, Officer Dirck of the Elgin Police Department was chosen for the top award for his courageous efforts, saving the life of a pregnant woman being viciously attacked by a dog. Well done Officer Dirck! And well done to all officers in Kane County. Keep up the great work into 2025!

Congratulations to Officer Cameron Dirck, this year’s recipient of the 2024 Kane County Officer of the Year Award! Officer Dirck was recognized for his quick response on July 25, 2024, when he responded to a call for service involving a woman being attacked by a dog. His swift actions were critical in stopping the attack and preventing further harm.

We also congratulate the other nominees for their great work and thank the Kane County Chiefs of Police Association for acknowledging the exceptional efforts of all officers.

It is with great sadness that the Village of Oak Park announces that Oak Park Police Detective Allan Reddins was killed today, Nov. 29, 2024, in the line of duty while responding to a call involving an armed offender. The Village of Oak Park extends its deepest condolences to Detective Reddins’ family, friends and colleagues within the Oak Park Police Department and the wider law enforcement community as they process the grief caused by this senseless act of violence.
