Don’t you think this juvenile alligator’s eye looks like a jewel?! The tan coloration serves as camouflage for the young gator. It helps the gator blend in with sandy mud and grass. This helps to protect it from predators like birds and other alligators. This lucky alligator will live its life at the park, free from worries like that. Come and see this cutie and several larger relatives!

Isn’t this diamondback terrapin beautiful?! You can view this gorgeous turtle in the park’s H**petarium and view its unique markings. In the wild, these terrapins are found in brackish water estuaries along the eastern and southern coasts of the United States. If you are placing crab traps, please install bycatch reduction devices to keep terrapins from accidentally being caught! Crab traps and traffic on roads are among their biggest threats. We also have to preserve their habitats. ❤️

This beautiful reticulated python has cat-like eyes. The vertical, slit-like pupils help her see in low light. They also provide excellent depth perception. The goal is to be able to see sharply in a vertical field of view while moving along the ground. That helps pythons catch their meals! Pythons are not venomous and rely on vision, speed, and muscular strength to hunt for food. While not endangered, wild pythons are threatened by poaching and the destruction of their habitats. You can see this rare color variation of python in the park’s H**petarium. Through the viewing glass, you can enjoy a safe and up-close view!

They look, move and even smell like the kind of furry Everglades marsh rabbit a Burmese python would love to eat. But these bunnies are robots meant to lure the giant invasive snakes out of their hiding spots.

It's the latest effort by the South Florida Water Management District to eliminate as many pythons as possible from the Everglades, where they are decimating native species with their voracious appetites. In Everglades National Park, officials say the snakes have eliminated 95% of small mammals as well as thousands of birds.
