📢 Please join us in welcoming Ronald Simms as the new Director of VCDC Community Lenders!

Ron brings nearly two decades of experience in banking, lending, business development, and organizational leadership. Throughout his career, he has worked with businesses, financial institutions, and community organizations to expand access to capital, support economic growth, and build strong partnerships.

In his new role, Ron will lead VCDC Community Lenders, our CDFI affiliate, as we continue to expand access to financing for affordable housing and community development projects across Virginia and West Virginia. His experience in financial services, passion for relationship building, and commitment to creating opportunity make him a great addition to our team. As part of this leadership transition, Ron will work alongside longtime Director Laura Dupuy, who will retire at the end of 2026. This time together will help ensure a smooth transition and build on the strong foundation Community Lenders has established.

Exciting news from Southwest Virginia! 🏡

VCDC is proud to introduce North Fork Manor into our portfolio, alongside our longtime partners at Community Housing Partners.

This project will bring much-needed improvements to 56 affordable rental townhomes in Saltville, VA, including modernized interiors, energy-efficient upgrades, and better broadband connectivity, all while preserving affordable housing for families in this rural community.

Through VCDC Housing Equity Fund 29, we're investing over $6 million in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity to help these renovations move forward. Thank you to the investors of Fund 29 for making this effort possible.

We're grateful to continue our partnership with Community Housing Partners and excited to see the difference these improvements will make for North Fork Manor residents!

Small gestures can make a meaningful difference! 💙

Our team came together to assemble snack packs for the staff and volunteers at Connor’s Heroes, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting children with cancer and their families throughout Central Virginia.

We enjoyed the opportunity to give back and show our appreciation for the people behind such important work. At VCDC, building vibrant communities goes beyond housing and development. It’s also about supporting the organizations and individuals who make our communities stronger.

Following a 40-year career dedicated to uplifting underserved populations and advancing community development, Laura Dupuy will retire from VCDC at the end of 2026

Laura has led our CDFI affiliate VCDC Community Lenders since 2015, helping grow our lending and New Markets Tax Credit investments in support of affordable housing and economic development projects in Virginia and West Virginia. Under her direction, VCDC Community Lenders has grown its lending portfolio by over 700%, and impacted thousands of low-income households.

Throughout her career, Laura has been a fierce advocate for communities, specifically through her housing development work as Director of Lynchburg Neighborhood Development Foundation and as an attorney representing low-income individuals through Virginia Legal Aid. She is a creative problem-solver, a trusted leader, and a wonderful colleague. Her impact can be seen in both the projects and programs she has helped bring to life, and in the people and communities she has gotten to know along the way.

We have so much to celebrate and even more to thank Laura for. Please join us in congratulating her on an amazing career and a very well-deserved retirement!

🎉 VCDC is excited to welcome Jonas Feit as our AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer through Virginia Housing Alliance! Jonas recently graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Graphic Design and brings experience in community development, literacy tutoring, and food security initiatives. During his service year, Jonas will support VCDC Community Lenders' communications and program efforts while also helping build capacity for the Virginia CDFI Coalition, organizing and supporting collaborative efforts across the statewide network. Jonas is eager to learn more about how CDFIs advance affordable housing and community development throughout Virginia, and we're excited to have him on the team. There's nothing like a team day that involves fresh air, good company, and getting a little dirt on your hands!

The VCDC team had a great time volunteering with Shalom Farms last week and learning more about the work they’re doing to improve access to fresh, healthy food across the Richmond community. Each year, their farms and food access programs provide more than 600,000 servings of locally grown produce across the Richmond region. A big thank you to Marc for showing us around the Northside Farm and making planting and harvesting so much fun!

We’re always glad to get out of the office and support organizations doing meaningful work close to home.

A huge thank you to Richelle and our Asset Management team for helping make this year's back-to-school season special for our residents and communities. ✏️

Together, we filled and distributed 100 backpacks to support students and families as they prepare for the new school year. 🎒 This event benefited residents connected to Berkley Court and Pretlow Gardens in Franklin, VA, helping ensure students have the supplies they need to start the school year with confidence. We continue to invest in resident well-being as part of our broader mission to strengthen vibrant communities through quality affordable housing.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and generosity. Thank you to Richelle and our Asset Management team for showing how much we care about our residents and the communities we serve.
