Big news for Orange County, VA: Madison Roads Apartments has officially closed!

Developed by Community Supports, this new affordable housing community will transform underused land into 21 permanent supportive housing apartments for low-income individuals with disabilities.

With accessible design, on-site supportive services, and close proximity to community resources, Madison Roads will offer more than housing — it will create stability, independence, and a true sense of belonging for new residents.

We’re proud to partner with Encompass Community Supports, People Incorporated of Virginia Virginia Housing, Atlantic Union Bank, Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Peacock Holland Construction, Sanders Architecture PC, and the investors of VCDC Equity Fund 29 to help bring this community to life.

We’re so proud of Kathryn and Nikisha in all they achieved through Mission Elevation! 🙌

AHIP would like to acknowledge the hard work of Kathryn Kieffer, Development Director, and Nikisha Woody, Client Success Advocate, who have spent the past fourteen months participating in the VCDC Mission Elevation program!

The Mission Elevation Program is designed for nonprofit organizations engaged in housing and community development activities across Virginia to help improve the communities they serve. The program provides participants with the tools, support, and guidance to address their organization's most pressing challenges. Participants collaborate with fellow nonprofit leaders from other organizations and executive coaches to enhance mission impact and organizational performance.

Congratulations to Kathryn and Kisha and the other participants in Mission Elevation Cohort 7 on graduating from the program on June 9, 2026. These graduates join nearly 90 program alumni from 37 organizations including past AHIP participants, Cory Demchak, Executive Director, and Jen Jacobs, former Executive Director. We are excited to continue improving our processes, procedures, and client outcomes so homeowners can remain safely in their homes; older adults can age in place with dignity; and affordable homeownership is preserved in a rapidly changing housing market.

Historic Downtown Tappahannock is helping one of Virginia’s most historic downtowns imagine what comes next.

Set along the Rappahannock River, Tappahannock’s downtown district reflects generations of community life, commerce, and connection. Today, Historic Downtown Tappahannock is building on that legacy through preservation-based economic development, support for local businesses, tourism initiatives, cultural programming, and community partnerships that bring new energy into the heart of town.

For Executive Director Cupper Dickinson and Board President Jovita Kelly, that work is about more than events. It is about revitalization. It is about creating reasons for people to gather, shop, visit, invest, and help ensure downtown remains a vibrant center of community life.

Now, through VCDC’s Mission Elevation program, they are strengthening the organization behind that work by building sustainable funding, developing a stronger board, and growing the volunteer base needed to support long-term revitalization efforts.

Last month, VCDC was proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Townhomes at Liberty Place, a new affordable housing community in Richmond, Virginia. 🏠🙌

Developed with Canterbury Enterprises, Townhomes at Liberty Place brings 40 affordable homes to families and households earning 40%, 50%, and 60% of Area Median Income. The community reflects the character of Richmond’s neighborhoods while offering modern, energy-efficient homes designed with accessibility, comfort, and long-term affordability in mind.

We are grateful to the partners, community leaders, and investors in our VCDC Housing Equity Fund 27 who helped bring this development to life and expand access to quality affordable housing in the City of Richmond.

VCDC is heading to HousingAnd's 35th Annual Meeting & Housing Expo and we couldn’t be more excited. This annual convening brings together housing leaders, advocates, and changemakers to explore the most pressing issues in our field. Shavon brings nearly a decade of experience in affordable housing and a strong passion for building relationships and supporting thriving communities. She’s known for her thoughtful approach, attention to detail, and ability to navigate the day-to-day work that helps communities succeed. Her experience across a range of housing programs adds valuable perspective to our team.

Outside of work, Shavon enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and trying new foods.
