We’re proud to announce the closing of Monroe North Apartments, a new affordable housing community that will bring 32 much-needed homes to Wytheville, VA.

Monroe North is being developed by our longtime partner Open Door Community (formerly HOPE, Inc), a local organization that has spent more than 30 years helping individuals and families across Southwest Virginia find greater stability through housing, food access, and other support. We’re grateful to continue our decades-long partnership with them on a project that will make a real difference for those who call Wytheville home.

VCDC invested $4.3 million in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity through VCDC Housing Equity Fund 29 to support Monroe North Apartments, and also served as mortgage broker for the development. Our CDFI lending arm, VCDC Community Lenders, helped finance the acquisition of the property through two low-interest loans.

Thank you to the following project partners whose dedication helped make this community possible: Town of Wytheville, Virginia Housing , U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Mark Warner, Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Hill Studio, and Peacock Holland Construction, LLC.

Small homes can make a big difference!

VCDC Community Lenders is proud to partner with the Center for Health and Human Development (CHHD) on a new tiny home project in Harrisonburg, VA, creating safe, affordable housing for individuals facing some of the greatest barriers to housing stability.

To help bring the project to life, VCDC Community Lenders provided a $135,000 low-rate construction and bridge loan to support the development of two tiny homes.

Projects like this are exactly why CDFI lending is crucial: flexible, mission-driven capital can help community organizations move forward with creative housing solutions that may not fit traditional financing models.

This project marks CHHD’s first new-build development and an exciting step toward expanding permanent housing options for formerly unhoused residents in the Shenandoah Valley.
