Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia PPAV works to ensure that individuals and families have the freedom, information, and ability to make their own informed reproductive choices.

PPAV is a statewide 501(c)(4) advocacy organization whose mission is to preserve and broaden reproductive freedom through legislation, public education, electoral activity and litigation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We do this through:

Legislative activity: PPAV's legislative team works with members of the Virginia General Assembly to introduce legislation to protect and expand reproductive

health care services and reproductive rights, and to defeat legislation that will restrict access to reproductive health and rights. We lobby elected officials on legislation relating to reproductive health and rights. Public education: We build grassroots strength by organizing people, communities, and groups to become informed on issues, educate elected officials, and take action on issues. PPAV has built a strong statewide network of concerned grassroots supporters that is engaged and active in our work to protect reproductive rights and educates their communities about our issues. We strive to build grassroots leadership to sustain the work we do. Electoral activity: PPAV engages in electoral activity at the state and federal levels in order to ensure a legislature that is supportive of reproductive health and rights. Litigation: PPAV engages in legal activities to defend reproductive rights.

Exciting budget update & explainer from our Executive Director Jamie Lockhart —> ”This is a victory for Virginians who care about reproductive healthcare access, but most importantly it’s a victory for patients and their access to essential healthcare. We’re grateful to all our supporters who made their voices heard throughout this process.”

Special thanks to budget conferees led by L. Louise Lucas and Delegate Luke Torian, our budget patrons Senator Barbara Favola and Delegate Briana Sewell, Governor Governor Abigail Spanberger, and countless other legislators who went to bat for reproductive healthcare! 🩷

We applaud state legislators for prioritizing sexual and reproductive healthcare in the state budget agreement, which now heads to a final vote and then to the governor’s desk for signature.

Thank you to our champions in the House of Delegates and Senate and Governor Governor Abigail Spanberger who have fought for reproductive freedom during months of negotiations, and ensured that our essential health and rights did not get overshadowed.

Virginia has shown once again that it is a stronghold for reproductive freedom.

Proud to witness the signing of the the Right to Contraceptive Act and the Contraceptive Equity Act, which together ensure Virginians have both a legal right *and* affordable access to contraception of their choice.

Virginians have made it loud and clear: reproductive rights are human rights, and we will fight to protect them! Next stop: the Reproductive Freedom Amendment on the ballot this fall 👏

Virginians: your legislators are still working on a state budget, and your reproductive health care is at risk.

There’s still time to fix this during final negotiations, but we’re getting down to the wire. Click on the link in our bio to ask your legislator to protect reproductive health.

Legislators have the power of the pen to write policy, and the power of the purse to make sure it is funded. The latest House budget proposal does include an important increase in funding for reproductive healthcare, but it still falls short of the investment needed to protect access across the commonwealth.
