Highlights from the 2025 VMTA Conference 🎶
The VMTA Conference at George Mason University was an inspiring celebration of music, teaching, and community. We begin by acknowledging the outstanding leadership that made this event shine:
✨ Christy Tallamy, VMTA President-Elect, whose exceptional organization and attention to detail shaped a truly outstanding conference.
✨ Kim Parker, VMTA President, whose dedicated and impactful leadership over the past two years has uplifted our statewide association as she concludes her tenure this December.
RMTA was proud to see several of our own members recognized and featured throughout the conference:
🎉 Jennifer Scott – honored for 20 years of VMTA membership and spotlighted for her excellent presentation as part of the MTNA Certification Panel.
🎉 Chloe Fortin – present in her important statewide role as VMTA Presidents Liaison, supporting communication among local associations.
🎉 Dr. Magda Adamek & Dr. Miles Massicotte – delivered an admirable and virtuosic performance of Lutosławski’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini at the Teachers Recital. Their collaboration and artistry were truly exceptional.
🎉 Marina Andueza – honored for 30 years of RMTA membership. Marina also presented “Broadening the Piano Repertoire: The Richness of Latin American and Spanish Composers” and performed “Las Niñas” by Carlos Guastavino with Dr. Magda Adamek, who graciously stepped in for her duo partner after an unexpected injury. Marina currently serves as RMTA President for the 2025–2027 term.
Although not an RMTA member, we were delighted to celebrate:
🎉 Dr. Paulo Steinberg – recognized for 20 years of VMTA membership and awarded the prestigious MTNA Foundation Fellowship Award. Paulo is a wonderful friend and colleague to RMTA, having presented for our association several times.
Conference-wide highlights included:
✨ Inspiring sessions and a magnificent concert by MTNA President Dr. Kevin Chance.
✨ Thought-provoking creativity workshops led by Guest Clinician Leila Viss.
✨ The imaginative VMTA Commissioned Composer Concert by David Jonghak Kim, supported by RMTA member Hope Armstrong Erb in her role as VMTA Chair of the MTNA Commissioned Composer Program.
We return inspired, enriched, and proud of RMTA’s strong presence and contributions. Here’s to continued creativity, collaboration, and musical excellence in our community! 🌟🎹
