USDA APHIS Guidance on Animal Travel Impacted by the New World Screwworm

USDA APHIS is actively monitoring and updating guidance related to animal travel in response to New World Screwworm (NWS). As these requirements continue to evolve, the most current information is available on their website.

The WVVMA encourages members to reference these resources regularly and share them with clients as appropriate:

What a great day of learning and hands-on practice! 🧵🐾

On Saturday, April 28, veterinary technicians participated in a three-hour suturing workshop focused on building practical technical skills and confidence in the clinic.

The workshop was a partnership between the West Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Technician program at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, with generous support from Johnson & Johnson MedTech and the National Capitol Area Branch of AALAS.

Led by Dr. Tom Thomas, Dr. Shannon Stutler, Dr. Stella Spears, Dr. Dominique Cincinnati, Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell, and Dr. Deann Ashby, the session covered suture materials, knot-tying, needle handling, and basic suture patterns — all in a hands-on, supportive learning environment.
