Stop Street Harassment (SSH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting and ending gender-based street harassment worldwide. It started as a blog in 2008 and became incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2012. We believe that street harassment impedes gender equality and must be taken seriously. Because street harassment is often an invisible problem (especially to people in power) and it is dismi

ssed as being a “minor annoyance,” a “joke,” or the fault of the harassed person, our primarily focus right now is simply to document the problem and demonstrate why it’s a human rights violation that must be addressed.

It's been 5 years since our latest national study on sexual harassment and abuse in the U.S. Find what has changed and not changed in that time in this new report, led by our partners at Newcomb Institute at Tulane.

It's also 10 years since our national street harassment study and this report shows that rates of street harassment increased for women and stayed the same for men.

A 2024 survey shows 82% of women and 42% of men have experiences sexual harassment or assault in their lifetime -- most often in public spaces.

NEW RESEARCH ALERT!!

Hello! It's been a while since I have posted due to caring for a medically complex child (+ day job and a 2nd baby), but I am EXCITED to share that on Sept 16, our partners at Newcomb Institute at Tulane University are releasing a national report on sexual harassment in the USA.

This report is an update to the national reports we led in 2018 and 2019. We are research advisors/partners on this 2024 report. Thank you to our 2023 SSH donors who helped fund it.

This new report also provides a 10 year update on street harassment prevalence in the USA since our first-ever national street harassment study came out in 2014.

I'll post the report and key findings here on the 16th!!

In the meantime, you can see our past research reports here.

We work on national research to back up the stories people share. It is used by policymakers, reporters, academics and researchers across the nation. 2019 RESEARCH ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND ASSAULT: To close out Sexual Assault Awareness Month, on April 30, 2019, SSH, UCSD Center on Gender Equity and....

Due to caretaking duties this year, I've had to reduce my SSH efforts, but I am hopeful for a better year in 2024. For starters, we will be partnering with a few entities to do another national study, updating the data from our last study 5 years ago. We're still trying to raise about $1000 more as our contribution to the study. Can you help donate? thank you!! - holly

Help fund a national study on sexual harassment - it will be 5 years since our last study.
