What happens when a church volunteer walks into a prison and simply shows up for someone?

Sometimes, it changes everything.

This August, churches from across our region are joining together to serve through a Kairos Retreat at Central Prison. For three and a half days, volunteers will sit across the table from 42 residents and share meals, worship, conversation, and the hope of Christ.

No agenda. No program to push. Just presence.

And that presence has a way of opening doors that stay open long after the retreat ends. Many of the relationships formed during Kairos continue through weekly Prayer & Share gatherings and monthly reunions, turning a few days into months and years of discipleship.

We still need volunteers for the August 5 through 8 retreat.

If you feel called to serve, training Saturdays are scheduled for June 13, June 27, July 11, and July 25. No prior experience is needed.

Two sentences shape everything we do at Carolina Care Center.

Poverty is not the problem.
Hopelessness destroys lives.

We can fill pantries, stock fridges, and write checks, and all of that matters. But Matthew 25 calls us further. To address the root, to bring real lasting hope to real people with real stories, and to see not just a need but a neighbor made in the image of God.

That is why we believe, with everything we have, that the local church is the most powerful force for community transformation on earth. Not a program. Not a government agency. The local church and the people in local communities who make it move.

Every Saturday at the pantry, every counseling session, every prison visit, every child connected to support through the CarePortal... this is the Matthew 25 mandate in action.

And it happens because churches and individuals in local communities like yours choose to show up.

Thank you for giving. For serving. For praying. For partnering with us to bring hope where hopelessness tries to take root.

The best is still ahead. 🙏

Look at those freezers. 🙏

Not long ago, they were running low. But because of you, your donations, your Amazon wishlist purchases, and your generosity, this is what hope looks like, stocked up and ready to serve.

This is what happens when a community decides to show up for its neighbors. Churches, families, individuals — all of you — this is Matthew 25 in action.

Thank you for filling these shelves and for filling the gap. Because of your faithfulness, families in Wake and Durham Counties are going to be okay.

In just one year, 46% of our counseling sessions have been made possible by generous donors.

That number represents real people.

✅ A mom who finally got the help she'd been putting off for years.

✅ A young man who took a brave step toward healing.

✅ A family that found hope when they needed it most.

Because cost should never be the barrier that keeps someone from healing.

Every dollar given to our Counseling Ministry goes to work immediately. It closes the gap between someone who is hurting and the professional care they need.

That's not just good stewardship.
That's Matthew 25 in action.

👉 Thank you for making it possible. If you'd like to help us keep that number growing, check the first comment below.

A few months ago, these pallets were empty.

Today, they're full, stacked with boxed and canned goods ready to go home with families in need across our community. And it happened because of you.

Church members, friends, and neighbors have been shopping our Amazon Wishlist and shipping donations directly to Carolina Care Center. No drop-off. No hassle. Just a few clicks and a box shows up at our door.

That's Matthew 25 made simple. "I was hungry and you gave me food."

If you've given, thank you. Truly. You are the reason these shelves aren't empty.

If you haven't given yet and would like to, there's still room on that pallet.

What an incredible May!

Mental health matters, and the local church is one of the most powerful places where healing can begin.

This month, we visited two amazing congregations, Potter's Hand Church and Point Church, to talk about mental health, counseling, and the hope that's available right now.

The response was beautiful.

✅ Passionate people ready to lead care groups in their own churches.

✅ Families taking brave first steps toward getting real support.

✅ Conversations that reminded us exactly why this work matters.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

That promise can come to life in a counseling session. And we want your church to be part of making that happen.

Thank you, Potter's Hand Bible Church and Point Church 🙏

Your open doors and open hearts made this possible.

The momentum doesn't stop here.

We'd love to bring our table, our team, and our message to your congregation next.

Every week, local churches across Wake and Durham Counties are proving something the world needs to see:

That hopelessness doesn't get the last word.

The Matthew 25 mandate was never meant to be carried out by a single organization.

It was meant to be lived out by the local church, in every neighborhood, on every street, through every willing congregation that says yes.

We get to witness that every single week.
Christ International Church and ChristConnect Church, you show up, week after week, and families in Wake and Durham County are better for it. Thank you.

Esperanza Church and Lake Springs Church, your partnership is felt in ways that never make it onto a report or a spreadsheet. Thank you.

Oak Community Church and Point Church, you said yes when it mattered, and you keep saying yes. Thank you.

Potter's Hand Bible Church and Surface Church, the people you'll never meet are grateful for you. Thank you.

Vision-Church RDU, Reach Fellowship, and Local Point Church, you are the proof that the local church is still the most powerful force for good in any community. Thank you.

We don't take a single one of these partnerships for granted. You are the hands and feet of Jesus in Wake and Durham County, and we are honored to serve alongside you 🙏

What does a healthy inner circle look like, and do you have one?

Our counselor Jay has been sharing a series for Mental Health Awareness Month, and this week he's talking about something that affects every one of us: community.

Research tells us that for a healthy human being, our "inner circle", the people who truly know us, who we can call in a crisis, who we show up for, needs between 4 and 6 people. Not dozens of acquaintances. Four to six people who really know what you're carrying.

The Bible puts it simply: bear one another's burdens. That's not just a nice idea; it's a design for how we were made to live.

So take a moment and ask yourself: Do I have that? Do I have people I can be honest with, lean on, and pour into in return?

If that inner circle feels a little empty right now, Jay has a word of encouragement for you, and a next step.
