Happy Pride Month! Celebrated in June, Pride Month honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan and recognizes the impact that LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history. May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. This day was created to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by le***an, gay, bis*xual, trans, inters*x people, and all people with diverse s*xual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and s*x characteristics.

The date of May 17 was specifically chosen to commemorate the World Health Organization’s decision in 1990 to declassify homos*xuality as a mental disorder. To read more about this day, visit https://may17.org/about/.

Denim Day is Wednesday, April 24. It’s an annual campaign held during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

It began after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a r**e conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who r**ed her remove them, implying she consented. Following the supreme court overturning the r**e conviction, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

Denim Day has since grown into an international movement dedicated to bringing awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround s*xual violence.

How to sign up for MC Alert Accessibility Barrier Notifications

This system was made to improve communication about campus accessibility, expanding the use of MC Alert, the Emergency Notification System, to send text and voice messages to subscribers during business hours about known accessibility barriers.

Step 1: Go to
https://mcis.meredith.edu and login using your Net ID

Step 2: Click the menu button, and under user options, select MC Alert

Step 3: Check the Accessibility Opt-In Notifications box

Step 4: Hit submit, and you’re all set!
