A BSW student at Rhode Island College, Daytyah is passionate about supporting children and families and advocating for underserved communities. Through her work at Amos House, she supports unhoused children and helps create a safe, therapeutic environment where they can build social-emotional skills. She is also committed to social justice, community advocacy, and ensuring vulnerable individuals and families have access to the resources they need. Join our Conference Speaker Rose Molina, LICSW, NCSSW, DSW(c), in her presentation "Beyond the Counseling Office: Tiered School Social Work in Action - Practical and Ethical Strategies Across Tiers 1, 2, and 3", on Friday, November 13 (8:00-3:15 PM) at the Rhode Island Shriners (1 Rhodes Place in Cranston, RI).

Participants will explore practical strategies for universal prevention, targeted intervention, and individualized support while working through ethical decisions that arise in schools. 🌟 Congratulations to Wendy Joering, recipient of NASW-RI’s Nancy H. Gewirtz Social Action Award!

Wendy is the Executive Director of the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center, where she collaborates and partners with schools around the state, law enforcement and local leaders to bring awareness to the rise in antisemitism, Holocaust and genocide education, facilitates a leadership program for teens called LIFT (Leadership Institute for Teens) and protects the dignity of the remaining Holocaust survivors as well as their families.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in school social work. Join our Keynote Speaker Frederic Reamer, Ph.D. in his presentation "Artificial Intelligence in School Social Work: Emerging Ethical and Risk Management Challenges", on Friday, November 13 (8:00-3:15 PM) at the Rhode Island Shriners (1 Rhodes Place in Cranston, RI).

This presentation will examine cutting-edge ethical issues related to school social workers’ use of AI; apply relevant ethical standards; and outline key elements of a strategy for school social workers’ ethical use of AI. Dr. Frederic Reamer will examine ethical issues and risks related to informed consent and client autonomy; privacy and confidentiality; transparency; potential client misdiagnosis; client abandonment; client surveillance; clinical documentation; plagiarism, dishonesty, fraud, and misrepresentation; algorithmic bias and unfairness; and use of evidence-based AI tools.

Join Dr. Sara Rodrigues, LICSW in their workshop - When Trauma Meets Disability: Rethinking Safety, Regulation, and Healing Across Neurotypes, on November 6.

Trauma does not occur in a vacuum, and neither does healing. This workshop explores trauma through a neurodiversity-affirming and disability-informed lens, examining how trauma responses, disability, sensory needs, communication differences, and nervous-system regulation can intersect across neurotypes. Participants will also consider how systems can inadvertently reinforce distress by prioritizing compliance over safety and connection.
