In an interview with the Rhode Island Current, Founding Superintendent Joshua Laplante reflected on the debate surrounding De La Comunidad Bilingual and the families who helped bring the school to life.

This should never be about politics; it should be about creating new opportunities for children and honoring the voices of families who have spent years advocating for a school built by the community, for the community.

Call Governor Dan McKee and tell him to VETO THE CHARTER BAN!

As the 2026 legislative session enters its final days, we're proud to have supported legislation aimed at strengthening Rhode Island's education system and expanding opportunities for students and educators.

✅ H7419 / S2212: Supporting no-fee certification extensions for educators and expanding pathways into teaching and school leadership to help address workforce shortages.

✅ H8351 / S3015: Modernizing Rhode Island's school funding formula in line with recommendations from the Rhode Island Foundation's Blue Ribbon Commission.

✅ H7027 / S2079: Requiring AEDs and cardiac emergency response plans in middle and high schools to help keep students safe.

✅ H7003 / S2495: Establishing clear anti-hazing policies and protections for student-athletes.

✅ H7581 / S2233: Investing in civic education programs to prepare the next generation of informed and engaged citizens.

While some of these proposals have advanced and others remain under consideration, we will continue advocating for policies that strengthen educators, improve student safety, promote educational equity, and support student success across Rhode Island.

❗TOMORROW IS THE DAY❗

The Senate votes on the charter moratorium bill and the clock is running out.

S-2787 and H-7415 do not "pause" anything. They slam the door on schools like De La Comunidad Bilingual before they ever open. They tell families, your options stop here.

The House is the last line of defense!

📞 Call your state representative TODAY. Tell them to oppose H-7415 and stand with Rhode Island's children and families, not against them.

Our children deserve opportunity not politicians deciding their future.
