Sylvia Mburu spent the last ten months learning about the issues and systems that shape Rhode Island, and she just graduated.

Through Leadership Rhode Island, Sylvia learned side by side with leaders from across the state, and she’s already planning to keep those connections going for years to come.

It’s knowledge she carries straight into her work leading our corporate relations, building the partnerships with Rhode Island businesses that make so much of what we do possible, including the sponsors standing with us this Centennial year.

She calls Chi II the best class ever. We’re not about to argue. Congratulations, Sylvia! 💙

We're still thinking about Saturday night at WaterFire Providence, where we celebrated 100 years with so many of you right there beside us.

Looking out at the crowd along the river, we thought about everyone who has been part of this story since 1926, from the neighbors who gave what they could to the volunteers who kept showing up year after year. It felt like every one of them was there with us.

We can't wait to see what we'll build together over the next 100 years.

Kyle is joined by Katie West of Housing Network of Rhode Island, Jeffrey Taylor of The Mayforth Group, and our Director of Government Relations and Policy, Ellijah McLean. Together they talk about how voting and advocacy connect to housing, public investment, and quality of life across Rhode Island.

Colder days are coming, and our Women United Community Coat Drive for Amos House is collecting coats in every size, from kids' sizes to adult sizes.

If you have a clean coat you no longer wear, now is a good time to bring it by and help keep a neighbor warm this winter. We can only accept coats that are ready to wear, so please skip anything distressed, damaged, or heavily worn.

Our President and CEO, Cortney Nicolato, joined Bill Bartholomew on The Bartholomewtown Podcast to talk through Rhode Island’s ALICE® report and what it means for the nonprofits that make up so much of the state’s safety net.

About 190,000 Rhode Island households, 43% of the state, are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). These are working families who earn more than the federal poverty level but still not enough to cover the basics here. Nonprofits often meet that need, sometimes running programs on behalf of the state, even as funding tightens and demand grows.

Cortney makes the case for treating nonprofits as mission-driven businesses and essential infrastructure. That means real accountability and long-term planning instead of a budget scramble every June. She also explains how the data is turning into action through our Family Stability Initiative, which works alongside families for about 18 months as they move from crisis toward stability.

We’re still taking this in.

FM has been part of our story for more than 85 years. As our President and CEO Cortney Nicolato put it, "FM and its people have shown for generations what it means to invest in the place we call home." Getting to honor that partnership at our Centennial WaterFire celebration on October 17, surrounded by the people who helped build this work over a century, is a moment we won’t forget.

This gift will help more Rhode Island families find steady ground. It expands our Family Stability Initiative, including additional Economic Empowerment Centers where families get coordinated support built for long-term stability.
