Far too many young people age out of foster care only to experience homelessness. They deserve access to resources, a consistent and reliable support system, and guidance as they navigate independent living, but instead they are often met with a new sense of instability.
Our staff works closely with youth and young adults to help them build meaningful connections, earn their high school diploma or GED, and prepare for the transition into adulthood. Some have even been able to move into Copley Chambers; a housing initiative designed for young adults who have aged out of foster care. At Copley, they no longer have to worry about where they will sleep. Instead, they can focus on building their future with our team by their side every step of the way.
Weβre proud of the progress we've made in Rhode Island to address this need, but there is still so much work to be done! This Foster Care Awareness Month, join us in raising awareness about the importance of long-term support and access to resources for young people aging out of care. Because all young adults deserve the opportunity to build a stable, happy, healthy life.
