Congratulations to the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association - RIEEA 2026 Environmental Education Award winners! Each of these winners exemplify dedication and commitment to environmental education and outdoor learning and recreation.

🟢 Teacher of the Year: Lara Haggerty (The Greene School)
🟢 Environmental Educator of the Year: Layla Farahbakhsh (Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council)
🟢 Youth Leader of the Year: Avery Walsh (Mt. Hope High School, Bristol Warren Regional School District)
🟢 Organization of the Year: Save The Bay - Narragansett Bay

Join RIEEA as we recognize and celebrate these winners at a ceremony on Wednesday, October 21, 6:00-8:00pm, at the Save The Bay Center in Providence. It’s a wonderful event that you won’t want to miss!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Wednesday night at the Congress of the Birds Rehabilitation and Release Center in Chepachet! The highlights of the evening were the amazing birds, the peaceful walk along the forested paths, and the beautiful weather. It was awesome to see so many new faces and to celebrate summer at such a special place.

Huge thanks to Congress of the Birds for hosting us, Belmont Market for donating the snacks, Victoria Antonucci from the Rhode Island Land Trust Council for serving us beverages, and to all who helped make the evening so special!

THE WATERSHED WALK LAUNCH PARTY IS ALMOST HERE!

Join us for the unveiling of Watershed Walk, a new public art and signage installation in Roger Williams Park highlighting our local watershed and ecosystem.

The event is free and open to the public.

Join the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association - RIEEA on Saturday, September 19, from 10am-1pm for the Nature Liberation: RIEEA Workshop at Open fArms Retreat with Sienna Viette, Andraly Horn, and Rachel French. Formal and nonformal educators as well as advocates and community members are invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided and a stipend will be offered. Nestled within the living landscape of a working regenerative farm, the Nature Liberation workshop is an immersive experience designed for educators, healers, and seekers ready to deepen their relationship with the natural world. Through guided meditation practices and hands-on activities in herbal medicine, participants will learn to use the farm itself as a teaching tool – cultivating presence and awareness that can be brought back into both alternative and traditional learning spaces.

Open fArms Retreat is a 2 acre farm in Cumberland, RI. Created in 2019 through our vision for an Open Farm with Open Arms. Open fArms Retreat is a farm educating youth on sustainable farming practices while connecting with nature.
