The Womxn Project HQ The Womxn Project (TWP) believes everyone has a right to bodily freedom. The Womxn Project (TWP) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization.

Through civic engagement, policy advancement, and artivism, we take action to ensure reproductive freedom, gender equity, and LGBTQ+ rights in Rhode Island. TWP believes that together we can dismantle systems of oppression and uplift the voices of people in our communities throughout Rhode Island in order to shift power and shape the policies that impact our lives and the lives of our neighbors. WP is committed to embodying the principles of reproductive justice, cultivating innovation, and advancing real and lasting change. The Womxn Project Education Fund (TWPEF) is a Rhode Island nonprofit corporation and a 501(c)(3) charitable organization affiliated with TWP. TWPEF creates nonpartisan, educational programming to support the policy objectives of TWP.

Using reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights as a metric, the Bodily Freedom Forever Index (BFFI) is a voting transparency guide on two major topics that impact everyone.
Our local elected officials hold a lot of power. They make decisions on our behalf by contributing to policies, budgets, and more. That’s why it’s critical we ensure those we elect will be empathetic, caring advocates for us and our communities.

Explore every person who ran for elected office in Rhode Island to find out who in your town, county or state believe in bodily freedom forever, and who do not.

The Womxn Project developed the BFFI at a time when bodily freedom was coming under more direct attack in America. At the same time, the UN had developed a comprehensive list of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Leela Corman is a painter, educator, author, and graphic novel creator, working in the realm of diaspora Ashkenazi culture, third-generation restorative work, and New York City history. Her paintings and works on paper have been exhibited in the United States and Europe. Her books include the graphic novels Victory Parade, a story about WWII, women’s wrestling, and the astral plane over Buchenwald (Schocken/Pantheon, 2024), Unterzakhn (Schocken/Pantheon, 2012), which was nominated for the Eisner, the L.A. Times Book Award, and Le Prix Artemisia, and won the ROMICS Prize for Best Anglo-American Comic and the MoCCA Award of Excellence, and the short comics collections You Are Not A Guest (Field Mouse Press, 2023) and We All Wish For Deadly Force (Retrofit/Big Planet, 2016).

Her short comics have appeared in The Believer Magazine, Nautilus, The Nib, Bandcamp, and other publications.

UNESCO Statement:
On the night of 22 to 23 August 1791, in Saint Domingue, today the Republic of Haiti, saw the beginning of the uprising that would play a crucial role in the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
It is against this background that the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is commemorated on 23 August each year. It was first celebrated in a number of countries, in particular in Haiti (23 August 1998) and Gorée Island in Senegal (23 August 1999).
This International Day is intended to inscribe the tragedy of the slave trade in the memory of all peoples. In accordance with the goals of the intercultural project "The Routes of Enslaved Peoples", it should offer an opportunity for collective consideration of the historic causes, the methods and the consequences of this tragedy, and for an analysis of the interactions to which it has given rise between Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Caribbean.
