We've taken action to keep Johnson County secure by expanding vital paramedic coverage, strengthening partnerships with local fire departments, and expanding our mental health co-responder program to support residents in crisis. On this Labor Day weekend, my thoughts and gratitude are with the men and women who build this country and work on the front lines to keep us safe. Whether it be working in the many skilled trades, hospitality industries, education, or our emergency responders – your contribution to our community and quality of life does not go unnoticed. Thank you.

Additionally, I’m proud to announce an endorsement from two organizations at the heart of our labor community – The Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council and the Tri-County Labor Council of Eastern Kansas. Both of these organizations play an outsized role in the ongoing success of our region and I'm honored to have their support.

Today was the kcstairclimb Kansas City’s 9/11 Stair Climb. This is the 25th Anniversary of the terrible terrorist attack on the Twin Towers that claimed the lives of 343 of New York’s Bravest. It should also be remembered that literally hundreds more have died of 9/11 related illnesses since then.

The people who put this massive event on every year do a great job! We salute their efforts, right down to the last volunteer who helps make this possible!

We are always full of pride for the efforts our great people make to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice made by each and every first responder who responded on that day. CFD2 had another strong showing with 18 of our Firefighters climbing 110 floors to honor and remember those who gave it all. 🇺🇸 #343
