Two composers. Two very different musical worlds. One afternoon of extraordinary chamber music.

GUIDING LIGHTS opens Midwest Chamber Ensemble’s 15th season with Shostakovich’s haunting String Quartet No. 8—a deeply personal work written “in memory of victims of fascism and war”—alongside the sweeping warmth and lyricism of Danish composer Niels Gade’s String Quintet, Op. 8.

And there’s more hiding inside Shostakovich’s music than you might expect. 👀🎵 He actually signed his name into the score.

We’ll be revealing that musical secret—and introducing you to the musicians bringing these works to life—in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned!

Come discover the stories hidden inside the music.

Meet Danielle Jones-Walker
Flutist | Midwest Chamber Ensemble

Danielle is one of the artists who brings that connection to life, and we’re excited to share her story with you.

Danielle is a Kansas City based flutist and teacher who joined the Midwest Chamber Ensemble’s Wind Quintet, Beaufort Winds, in October of 2025. In addition to freelancing in the area, Danielle has subbed with the Missouri Symphony, the Mexico State Symphony Orchestra, and plays piccolo in the Heritage Philharmonic.
