Dr. Alison Banikowski, member of The University of Kansas Cancer Center's patient research advocate group known as PIVOT - Patient and Investigator Voices Organizing Together, added her signature to the ceremonial beam for the new KU Cancer Center before the final floor was topped off. Alison and her organization, Alison's Allies, have been staunch supporters of the cancer center’s mission and growth, and we're thankful her legacy will forever be embedded in the new building.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infects about 13 million people each year, including teens. Most infections clear on their own, but the ones that persist can lead to several types of cancer. HPV causes roughly 36,000 cancers in men and women every year.

The HPV vaccine can prevent more than 90% of these cancers before they ever develop... a powerful step in protecting long‑term health.
