KCMC President, Susan Klankey, will be performing!
More than 70 years of organizing, protesting and perseverance went into winning women the right to vote. This November, more than 100 singers will come together to tell that story.
Carmen KC is proud to present Andrea Ramsey’s Suffrage Cantata, a powerful musical journey through the women’s suffrage movement and the generations of women who fought to make their voices heard at the ballot box.
Through music and spoken word, the work traces the long struggle for suffrage while also bringing attention to women whose contributions have too often been overlooked, including Black suffragists and other women of color. It celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment while recognizing that, for many women, the fight for access to the ballot continued long after 1920.
For this special performance, Carmen KC will be joined by singers from Notre Dame de Sion High School, Shawnee Heights High School, Washburn Rural High School and Washburn University’s Vox Aura. More than 100 singers, ranging in age from 16 to 79, will share the stage, connecting generations of women through the story of a right passed from one generation to the next.
