What is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and why does KcATC use it? 💛
ABA is the science of learning! We use it to teach skills in small steps and track progress along the way.
Breaking a skill into small steps means each one is something a child can succeed at. While we teach, we keep track of what a child is doing, so we can see what’s helping and what needs to change. That way we’re guided by what’s actually happening, not by guesses.
We use ABA because it is evidence-based. It works with each child’s pace and can be adjusted based on what we see. If a child needs more time with a step, we take it. If they’re ready to move on, we move on. We also pay attention to how each child is responding and whether they’re enjoying it, because learning goes best when a child is having a good time.
The skills we teach are the ones that matter in everyday life, like communicating, playing, and being part of a group.
Then they take their skills out into the world! 🌞 Whether it’s a table, a classroom, or a hay bale tower, the goal is for those skills to go with them to new places and new people.
