June Meeting
June 12, 2026
Early Bird Beading—5 p.m.
NOTE: The members of the Bead Society of Greater Kansas City will elect officers at the June 12, 2026, meeting.
STAR-SPANGLED NECKLACE
The project for the meeting on June 12 will feature Beadaholique’s Star-Spangled Necklace pattern. Celebrate our beautiful country in time for the 4th of July. You will need Delicas, size 11/0, in red, white, and blue. (Seed beads in 10/0 or 11/0 will work; however, Leann Roberts, program coordinator, says Delicas/cylinder beads work better, as beads need to be uniform for this project.)
You can finish your flag in multiple ways:
• Attach a small delicate chain to each side with jump rings for a necklace.
• Make two flags and attach to earring wires for a patriotic set of earrings.
• Glue a magnet on the back and place on your refrigerator or in an office cubicle.
• Glue a pin back for a lapel pin.
This project uses Square Stitch. It is a basic easy stitch to add to your beading skill set. Leann will provide square stitch instructions, but members can look the stitch up on YouTube to see it clearly. Leann explained that this is what she did, as this was her first time with this stitch, too.
The pattern calls for 4 lb. Fireline, but Leann explained she used 6 lb. Fireline and that any thread will do. She mentioned that if the flag isn’t as stiff as you like after making it, you can run your thread back through the rows for additional strength.
