Did you know?💙

We’re revisiting Oregon’s Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Student Success Plan for those who may be new here!

The plan recognizes the unique educational needs and experiences of NHPI students while encouraging stronger partnerships between educators, families, and communities.

Through the NHPI program, we hope to strengthen cultural understanding among educators and school support staff to help create more supportive learning environments for our students.

📚Want to learn more? Visit oregon.gov and search “Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Student Success Plan” to view the full plan.

Our SPDC Medford Education Team is off to a great start! 📚💙

We’ve kicked things off at North Medford High School with our first two lunch gatherings and participated in Club Rush, where we connected with students and shared opportunities to get involved in our Mentoring & Tutoring Program!

We’re looking forward to building connections and supporting students throughout the school year!

A big thank you to everyone who came out and joined us!

Knowing your numbers is an important part of taking care of your health. Getting your A1C checked can help you better understand your blood sugar levels, while still enjoying our traditional foods with portion, frequency, and preparation in mind.

OHSU in American Samoa

The Department welcomes the Pediatric Ophthalmology team from Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) led by Dr Kellyn Bellsmith. This team is here for a week to partner with the local Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program to screen school children for possible vision impairment.

This team will screen at Matafao Elementary on Friday 9/18 and then travel to Manu’a islands over the weekend to screen children there.

We appreciate the partnership we have with the Department of Education, the Lions Club of Pago Pago, the Medicaid office and Dr Laloasi Steffany, ensuring our children receive the appropriate care for their vision so they can thrive in school and in everyday life.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our community Dr Bellsmith and the OHSU Pediatric Ophthalmology team. Faafetai tele!
