LEO!

Helloooo from the clouds! My name is Leo, and I’m the goofiest, happiest pal to a future lucky human.
I’m the most stereotypical Pomeranian in every way except size. I’m intelligent, energetic, sassy, and an armful of dog. I love all the joys that life has to offer – walks, car rides, hikes, long naps, off leash adventures with a pack, bike rides (I ride in a backpack!), obedience and trick training, camping, playing with all my dogs friends, and much more!

Like the average Pom, I can be pretty nervous at first and need someone patient who will let me warm up at my own pace. I don’t like when strangers reach their hands straight at me without letting me get to know them first. I’m not a fan of young kids that are inexperienced with dogs and need either an adult-only home or a home with chill older kids. I tend to bark at kids, cats, squirrels, and some dogs on leash when outside. I respond really well to positive reinforcement training and hope to continue that to decrease my stress and reactions.
My general anxiety also means that alone time stresses me out and would need someone who is understanding of separation anxiety. I’m not super clingy when you’re home, but I can only handle about 4 hours of alone time during the day and even less later at night. I’ve come a long way with training and medication, but minimal alone time is still a must. I’m not destructive or harmful to myself, but I do bark during separation anxiety episodes. It might be hard for me to live with shared walls.
I would LOVE to have at least one other dog at home. In fact, I probably need a dog buddy. This could significantly decrease my anxiety both when alone and throughout the day. Playing with dogs is my favorite thing ever. I board with a group of dogs and go on pack adventures regularly, and the people taking care of me say I’m at my most relaxed and easy going when surrounded by other dogs. A major plus would be a fenced yard for me to play with my dog siblings all day.
In the right home environment, I will be the most loyal, snuggly friend for life. Patience and enrichment is a must, but it will be so rewarded.

October is black cat awareness month 🐈‍⬛🖤

Two black kittens currently have adoption pending, but we still have a couple black cats still looking for their forever homes. One of these cats is Jinx, a young black cat that is full of energy and likes to talk a lot. He was found in a carrier outside of the county shelter before coming to us. Jinx is looking for a home where he could ideally be the only cat, as he can play hard.

Costumes optional, but always encouraged (just nothing that will scare the cats). ALL AGES WELCOME!

Lemon is a sweet Siamese cat who is very playful and talkative. She is one of our heartstrings animals, which means she needs some extra care from her future family. She is on an all liquid diet, but that doesn’t stop her personality from shining through. Lemon loves to lick others, suck on her own tail, play with some select toys, and chat it up with you.

Lemon is looking for someone to foster or adopt her, so if you are ready for a playful cat buddy she would be the one for you!

Have a passion for rescue dogs and animal welfare? Animal Aid is officially hiring a new Dog Program Coordinator!

Position Overview: The Dog Program Coordinator serves as the primary contact for potential and active Animal Aid dog foster parents and dog adoption applicants. This person works with the Animal Care Manager and the Dog Team to coordinate the placement of dogs into foster homes, oversee communication with dog foster parents, coordinates additional resources as needed by foster families (e.g., education, training, etc.), and participates in the adoption process for all dogs. This is a paid, 30-40 hour position with medical, dental, and vision healthcare benefits.

It's Adopt a Less-Adoptable Pet week, and we’ll be honest: we’re not big fans of the phrase “less adoptable.” Because there’s nothing less lovable about a senior cat, a shy dog, a pet with medical needs, or an animal who needs a little more time to feel comfortable.

So to end this week, we’re putting the spotlight on our Heartstrings Pets. These are animals who may need a little extra love, time, patience, or specialized care to find the right match.

These pets may not be the right match for every home, and that's okay. We're not looking for just any home. We're looking for their home. Sometimes the animals who take a little more patience give you the biggest connection in return. This week, consider getting to know one of our Heartstrings animals. You might just find your perfect match.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!

Last week 9 year old Aurelia decided she wanted to host a craft sale to benefit animals. After some time researching local organizations, she settled on Animal Aid, Inc She thought a smaller, local shelter could really use extra support.

Aurelia and her wonderful friends Mimi and Niko m, along with a few others, managed to raise $93 in two hours and had tons of fun making crafts, posters and hosting the event. Hopefully they also raised some awareness around shelter needs.

Thank you to Aurelia and friends for this effort! What a great group of kids and their parents!

You’ve seen the activities we’ll have throughout the evening. You’ve gotten a peek at some of our silent auction items. Now it’s time to talk about the real heart behind Paws Beneath the Moonlight.

The animals who come to Animal Aid all have their own stories. Some are found in unexpected places, like a backpack. Some lose their families. Others are rescued from the streets or surrendered when their families can no longer afford the veterinary care they need. Whatever their story, when they come through our doors, we’re committed to meeting them where they are and giving them the care, patience, and support they need to find their next chapter. And our commitment doesn’t end when they’re adopted. Animal Aid is there for the long haul, with a lifetime return policy that means our cats and dogs can always come back to us if they ever need us again.

That’s what Paws Beneath the Moonlight is really about. Creating more second chances, supporting animals through every chapter, and making sure they always have somewhere to turn.
