Our Parenting Inside Out team will be attending and presenting at the International Community Justice Association Research Conference in Columbus, Ohio, August 30 – September 2!

Leticia and Sparrow will be leading a workshop session titled, “Parenting Inside Out in Practice: Exploring the Impact of Evidence-Based Parenting Programming for Justice-System Impacted Families.”

Yarg Foundation has been a key funder and supporter of our work with youth impacted by parental incarceration. They awarded us a multi-year grant to build capacity for The PATHfinder Club (TPC) and Mentoring Inside Out (MIO) youth programs. Due to the partnership and generosity of Yarg Foundation, we have been able to serve more youth than ever before and enhance the services and support we are providing.

Over the past two and a half years, Yarg helped us to enhance our TPC curriculum model, accomplish place-based collaborations with civic and community organizations, and expand TPC to offer a community-based club for more area high-school students. Yarg has not only been a source of support, but also a leader in convening organizations like ours committed to youth programs and building organizational capacity.

Together, we are making a difference in the lives of youth impacted by incarceration, and we are grateful to Yarg Foundation for their ongoing support and dedication and for propelling our work forward.

Don Butler has been a Facilitator of our Parenting Inside Out (PIO) and Building Resilience curricula since 2014, bringing a perspective shaped by personal transformation. "Addiction happened and completely changed the course of my life," he reflects. "I spent 6 months at Inverness Jail and now here I am going in there and facilitating classes. It's rewarding."

The PIO curriculum didn't just give Don tools to share with others—it reshaped his own life. "I realized how important those pieces are in everyday life," he says of the communication, emotion regulation, and problem-solving skills he learned. But the most unexpected gift has been the ongoing learning: "I didn't realize the impact being a Facilitator would have on my own life. You have the opportunity as a Facilitator to learn from all the knowledge and wisdom that is sitting there with you."

In Don's journey, the long-term impact is clear: past struggles have become present purpose, expanding resilience and supporting others in exiting systems involvement to be safe and thrive. ✨ 🌱

Danny brings 18 years of healthcare leadership and a deep passion for mental health advocacy to our team. Drawing from his own lived experience, Danny is dedicated to breaking the stigma around having incarcerated loved ones. He envisions a future where programs like those offered by The Pathfinder Network exist across the United States, driving national awareness to an often-overlooked cause.

When he’s not leading transformational work, you can find him traveling, reading, or relaxing with his wife, Lauren, and their tuxedo cat, Beaux Charles. 🐾

Members of The PATHfinder Club recently teamed up with Historic Parkrose to design and paint a vibrant street mural at NE 106th & Sandy Blvd in Portland—giving systems-impacted teens a hands-on opportunity to explore public art, placemaking, and community building.

Héctor Márquez, Executive Director of Historic Parkrose, shared what this partnership means to the neighborhood:

"The Pathfinder Network has been an outstanding partner because their work helps young people build skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging while also creating lasting benefits for the Parkrose community."

Power in partnership! 👏

Every young person deserves stability, support, and a clear path forward. 💚

This week, members of the Transforming Justice Coalition – Babak Zolfaghari-Azar, senior policy manager, at Partnership for Safety and Justice; Leticia Longoria-Navarro, executive director at The Pathfinder Network , Vic Trillo Jr., The Pathfinders Club program manager; and Mohamed Farah, grant manager at Constructing Hope – co-presented at Multnomah County's Juvenile Justice Steering Committee. They shared an educational and empowerment toolkit built to support youth and families navigating the justice system.

Thank you to members of Multnomah County's Juvenile Justice Steering Committee, and to co-chairs Kamille Irwin-Cordero from POIC's Community Healing Initiative (CHI) and Ximena Ospina from Latino Network for their leadership.
