Oregon law requires that anyone digging in private property or any public right of way call the One Call Center prior to digging. Everyone, contractor and homeowner alike, must call two business days prior to digging. After the call is received, the One-Call Center will notify all affected Operators. The Operators then have two business days to locate and accurately mark their underground facilities using color-coded paint.

Heavy rain or flooding can be treacherous to excavation projects. It can erode ground cover, move soil, reveal or stress pipelines, and standing water can also hamper work efforts and impede recovery and repairs.

Whether you're digging, trenching, or just doing a DIY project, always contact 811 before you dig to stay safe, and file another ticket to have utilities remarked after major weather events. It could prevent a serious incident.

You know the timeline.
You know the equipment.
You know your role.

But no one knows exactly where underground utilities are located except for underground utility locators. Before every excavation (even if you've worked in the area before), contact 811. Because experience is valuable, but it isn't a substitute for safe digging practices.
