From harvest to jam & jelly…follow along as our volunteers turned our freshly harvested Kousa Dogwood into what will soon be delicious preserves!

Taste test…although the skin is edible, we highly suggest breaking it open, the inside is the best part!

we couldn’t do it without our volunteers!

Sometimes we even have a furry friend help out along the way!

Once de stemmed and washed it’s into the steamer they go. When ready, our team will collect the juice and prepare it for storage.

Taadah!! With a little bit of pectin and a lot of time in the fridge, this juice will soon turn into one of our jellies!

September 29 is "Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste", Portland Fruit Tree Project (that's us!) is sharing 3 key facts about food waste and our current food date label system, provided to us by the :

🌍 A nationally representative survey found that 88% of consumers discard food near the package date label at least occasionally – even though it's often still perfectly good.

🍎 In 2024 alone, date label confusion contributed to an estimated 3.5 million tons of food waste.

💰Standardizing date labels is one of the most cost-effective solutions to reducing food waste in the United States.

We are vending at OMSI After Dark: Homegrown on September 30 and have two tickets to giveaway!

Homegrown will explore vertical gardening, growing your own produce, and will have a couple of furry animals for you to pet. (You’re welcome to specifically talk about what you’ll be doing at the event instead)
