Please join Roseway Neighborhood Association this coming Sunday, October 18th 2026 for a one-hour work party (9:30 - 10:30 am) to clean up Roseway Plaza and w**d the adjacent Pollinator Patches. We also have a donation of some wood chips from a neighbor so we can mulch some of the parkway trees closest to the plaza. Tools and work gloves will be available.

Join Roseway families to dance, shout, and celebrate the nationwide day of action together on Saturday, October 17th from 2-4pm. Meet at the NE 72nd and Sandy park blocks. Bring signs, costumes, bubbles, noisemakers, and snacks!

Join us for a FREE, family-friendly fall event we’ll be hosting on Friday, October 23rd, from 4:30–6:30 PM at Rose City Golf Club (2200 NE 71st Ave, Portland, OR 97213)!

We’re putting together an afternoon of pumpkin painting for kids, with mini pumpkins and all the supplies provided, along with Halloween movies, music, candy, and snacks. Parents can relax and enjoy Oktoberfest b**r specials while the kids decorate their pumpkins.

The Roseway Neighborhood Association will have our monthly board meeting TOMORROW Tuesday, October 13, from 7:00-7:30 pm, ONLINE ONLY. As always, all are welcome, but note that this will be a 30 minute mini-meeting. Topics this month include:

- Committee and project updates
- Brief touch-base for the Community Meeting on Oct 27

In the late 1800s, Portland faced a crisis of homeless and abandoned youth who had little support. At the time, these vulnerable children were met with scant compassion; the common response was to incarcerate or institutionalize them. However, our founder, Thomas Lamb Eliot, refused to give up on these kids. In 1885, he rallied Portland’s leaders to establish the Boys & Girls Aid Society of Oregon, taking legal custody of at-risk youth and placing them in private foster homes to provide the care and stability they desperately needed.

For 140 years and counting, Boys & Girls Aid’s foster parents have upheld this
compassionate legacy — transforming countless lives and creating a better world, one child at a time. The profound impact of providing a stable, supportive home to a youth navigating the foster care system is difficult to capture in words. NE 72nd Avenue safety improvements and fall construction updates:

Safety improvements coming to NE 72nd Avenue-
As part of the Cully Public Works Improvement Project, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) will make changes along NE 72nd Avenue to improve safety for people walking, biking and rolling and to help reduce cut-through vehicle traffic.

Here’s what’s changing:
- Left turn restrictions on NE Sandy Boulevard and NE Fremont Street will limit vehicle movements and help keep through traffic on main streets rather than using NE 72nd Avenue as a shortcut.
- A new multi-use path between NE Prescott and NE Killingsworth streets will provide a dedicated space for people walking, biking and rolling, separated from vehicle traffic.

Tree removal work continues:
While many of the planned tree removals have already been completed, some additional tree removals are scheduled and are expected to take place in October. When construction is complete, crews will plant replacement street trees. Crews may also trim vegetation within the public right-of-way to prepare for upcoming construction. If larger shrubs need to be removed, the project team will contact affected property owners individually before work begins.

Free Trees Available For All Portlanders! Registration is open

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)'s Urban Forestry division is giving away 4,500 trees this fall for Portlanders to plant on private property. That's an increase from the over 4,000 trees provided to Portlanders last year. The expanded capacity is thanks to funding from the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF), and registration is now open.

Portlanders can go to Portland.gov/free-yard-trees to register and to view the types of trees available this year. Neighbors are encouraged to register soon as spots are filling up quickly!
