A reminder to our Roseway neighbors:

All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 Southbound lanes will be CLOSED at the Rose Quarter for five weeks, starting next Friday, September 11th. The closure is required for sign‑bridge installation and major deck repairs. People should expect commute times to double or triple with longer hours of congestion and heavier traffic on I-205, I-405, backing up into Vancouver, Washington, and spillover anticipated onto nearby neighborhood streets. Ground Score members are experienced waste pickers, environmental workers, and advocates who bring deep knowledge of waste diversion, picker culture, and the realities faced by unhoused neighbors. Their lived expertise helps guide safe, respectful, and effective community-led environmental care.

Rocky Butte Tunnel Concert 2026 on September 12, 2-6pm.
Block Party Music Performance Potluck -
Bring a lawn chair and food to share!
Walking and Rolling is encouraged, it is a 0.3 mile distance to the tunnel from Rocky Butte Rd and 92nd Ave with a 200ft gain. The street will be closed to car traffic.

This is a free community concert inside The Rocky Butte tunnel. The acoustics of the tunnel will provide a memorable musical experience with a chance to gather as friends inside an urban volcano! PBOT permitted that the street be closed to vehicles so everyone could safely walk, bike and picnic in this architectural wonder. Also, The Bird Alliance of Oregon will join us with a tabling to share about their future new home at the base of Rocky Butte along 82nd Ave.

It's been a dry spring and summer in Oregon. Soils in most places are bone dry. Many people mistakenly think yellowing or browning leaves in August signals an early fall. But at most elevations summer should last another month, with trees still busy making sugars to get them through the winter. Losing leaves early to drought weakens trees and can eventually kill them.

That's why the last week in August is Soak It Week. This is a great time for homeowners to get out the watering jugs. Give your yard and street trees a long, slow soak. It also helps to remove grass and weeds from around trees so water soaks in better. Mulching to 3 or 4 inches in a circle around trees (but not touching the trunk) helps reduce evaporation from the soil. Decide what devices you need to save water in your home. You'll be able to customize your free efficiency kit on the form or when you call or email us. Here are your options:

-Faucet aerators: Faucet aerators screw onto your existing faucets and help the faucets use less water. We offer 1.0 gallons-per-minute (gpm) aerators for dedicated handwashing faucets (like you might have in your bathroom) and 1.5 gpm aerators for rinsing and small filling operations (like you might have in your kitchen).
-Toilet leak detection dye tablets: These help you find out if you have a leak in your toilet. If you have a leak in your house, it's most likely in your toilet.

Prosper Portland recently launched the Vacant Storefront Grant.

The grant is designed to activate vacant commercial storefronts across Portland and help reduce the financial barriers for businesses leasing vacant spaces by providing matching grant funds for tenant improvements.

The Vacant Storefront Grant will provide support for businesses that locate in vacant storefronts within the City of Portland. The program will reimburse up to 75% of eligible tenant improvement costs for:
• Grocery Stores (up to $100,000)
• Restaurants (up to $50,000)
• Retail Businesses (up to $25,000)

Are you tired of neglected vacant properties in our neighborhood? Roseway's retail vacancy rate is over 20%, versus 4% nationally. Vacant properties tend to develop overgrown vegetation, graffiti, trash, broken windows, and hazards along sidewalks. If you know the building owner, and feel comfortable doing so, consider talking to them and sharing your concerns.

In regards to the specific Roseway neighborhood property at 7545 NE Sandy Blvd, the foreclosure process has been initiated. The City of Portland is inviting people to provide testimony on the foreclosure of this property. If you have an experience or opinion regarding this property that you would like to share with the City, you can register to provide verbal testimony or submit written testimony to Council by clicking "Testify on This Item" at the link below.
