We had the privilege of presenting the Curt Trinko Scholarship Award on behalf of Curt and Residents Forward at the Schreiber High School Scholarship Awards Ceremony.
As Port Washington’s longest-running environmental organization, Residents Forward has been advancing environmental stewardship and community sustainability since 1968. Since the early 1970’s, Curt Trinko has been one of our community’s most dedicated advocates. From his early efforts to stop the proposed incinerator in Hempstead Harbor and clean up the Landfill at the site that is now Harbor Links, to more than five decades of service and leadership, Curt has shaped the environmental progress of our peninsula.
A living archive of our community’s environmental history, he continues to champion local sustainability efforts today as Chairman of Residents Forward.
Cultivating the next generation of environmental leaders has always been central to Curt’s vision and Residents Forward’s mission.
Each year, the Curt Trinko Scholarship recognizes a graduating senior whose service, stewardship, and community impact help move Port Washington toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
This year, we were proud to honor Danny Muller for his work with the Kicks 4 Change initiative. Through his efforts, used sneakers are collected at various stations around town and either recycled or redistributed to children and families in need. Rather than allowing worn footwear to end up at the curb or in the waste stream, Danny helps give these items a second life or ensures they are responsibly recycled into reusable materials. His project is a powerful example of how one resident’’s initiative can create both environmental and social impact.
Danny, as you cross the finish line at Schreiber and begin the next chapter of your journey, we hope you carry your commitment to stewardship with you as you move forward.
We congratulate Danny on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in the years ahead.
Congratulations to the Schreiber Senior Class of 2026!! 🎓
