Meet our 2025-2026 call for scores winners!

Based in Pittsburgh, Victor Valle is a composer, performer, and educator whose evocative work expresses lived experiences through music. His post-minimalist works have been praised for their narrative clarity and exploratory spirit.

Drawing on a wide range of life experiences and a deep sense of nostalgia, Victor’s music intertwines memory and musical expression, often reflecting change and personal narrative. He holds degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington and Carnegie Mellon University. Currently, Victor teaches piano at Carnegie Mellon University’s Preparatory Music School, where he guides young pianists discovering music for the first time– celebrating the small moments that often spark a lifetime of music-making.

Victor’s music has been recognized through numerous awards and performances. He is a recipient of the Lloyd-Carr Taliaferro Award for isolated joy, the Harry G. Archer Orchestra Competition Award for and the fool leaped, and the 2023 Pittsburgh Composer Project Call for Scores for the first brushstroke on a blank canvas. Most recently, his piece i’m taking you to the sun was premiered at the 2025 NASA Convention. Other recent premieres include then comes change with the UTA Saxophone Choir at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, and the fool leaped with the CMU Philharmonic, crezco for saxophone and piano, and sad bird suite for solo piano.

Meet our 2025-2026 call for scores winners!

Ali Sadeqi is an Iranian composer, setar performer, and multimedia artist based in Pittsburgh. His work draws on Persian traditional music, poetry, and political issues, while integrating contemporary performance practices, visual media, and technology.

Visual art plays a central role in both Ali’s compositional thinking and performance practice. Inspired by ideas of color, brushstroke, and spatial movement, he treats timbre and gesture as a visual artist would treat their materials, often building sonic structures that unfold like images. In live performance, he makes this visual logic explicit through projection and video design, and allows image and sound to work in tandem rather than as separate layers.

His chamber and orchestral works explore timbral and microtonal possibilities, often pushing instruments to their limits, yielding new colors and sonic textures. Alongside his acoustic practice, he designs custom electroacoustic instruments and musical interfaces that challenge established modes of music-making and expand the live performance environment.

He has collaborated with ensembles such as Momenta Quartet, New Thread Quartet, Modern Medieval Voices, and Hub New Music. Ali holds an M.M. from Binghamton University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Composition and Theory at the University of Pittsburgh.

Come hear Ali's piece "REng" at Kelly Strayhorn on March 21st!
