We took the month of June off and this is the amount of plastic we collected from just 15 homes! Can you imagine how much more can be recycled if all the homes in our community commit to sorting and recycling their plastic bags and packaging

Get in touch with us to keep this initiative going! If you are a student looking for community service, a retired person wanting to give back, a parent wanting to get their young children involved in a community project - we need you! Please email us at [email protected]

A Fox Chapel teen is making a dent in local landfills with his start-up, Green Bridge 412, but the soon-to-be college freshman needs someone to take the recycling reins. Over the past year, Kabeer Chopra and his team of volunteers rid thousands of pounds of plastic bags, glass bottles and

When 1400 people go through Feeding the Flock’s food distribution center, they generate a ton of plastic from all the packaging. This week alone we collected over 70 pounds! We have been dropping these at Giant Eagle’s plastic collection center in their warehouse (at the back of the store). But we believe that option will be ending soon, and they’ll only collect whatever plastic fits in the small collection bin in front of the store. If that happens, we’ll have to find an alternative collection option.

If you saw my video from my experience in Chile last summer, I had talked about how infrastructure and legislation need to work together to create a recycling culture. Our current environment makes it hard even for people willing to put in the effort to keep our landfills free of items that can be recycled.

Our 2025 impact is in — and it’s all thanks to our amazing volunteers, partners, and neighbors 💚♻️

This year, together we kept 2,795 lbs of plastic bags, 14,260 glass bottles, and 366 lbs of batteries out of landfills right here in our community.

And just in Q4 alone, we collected 570 lbs of plastic bags, 4,470 glass bottles, and 80 lbs of batteries — which is pretty incredible for just three months!

Huge thank you to everyone who helps with pickups, sorting, drop-offs, and spreading the word. If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, we’d love to have you — even a few hours a month makes a big difference. 💪🌱

What creates a recycling culture? Is it community responsibility or is it infrastructure? I shared my insights with SSA from my two week fellowship with a recycling organization in Santiago, Chile over the summer.

As Green Bridge tries to keep its free recycling service going, there are lessons to be learnt from other places on how we can collectively move towards a zero waste community. We are looking for volunteers to help us with our mission.

A little belated, but full of gratitude 💚

This holiday season, I just want to say thank you. Green Bridge 412 wouldn’t work without the time, energy, and commitment of our volunteers — people who are retired, who already has two jobs, or a disability - but show up to help keep our neighborhood cleaner and greener. They dedicate their time, effort and money to pitch in for a largely unrecognized effort.

We also want to give a special thank you (and send-off) to one of our volunteers Ms Nail Mary Kay Nail who’s leaving the neighborhood. You’ve been such an important part of this team and we’re so grateful for everything you’ve done for Green Bridge 412.

This get-together was our way of celebrating the people behind the work — because real change only happens when a community comes together.

If you’re looking for a way to get involved, we’d love for you to join us. Every extra set of hands makes a difference.

So great to see our bins in action! Thank you Treat Down the Street and Gathering Boards for being early supporters of our initiative and for being committed recycling partners.
If there are other retailers or businesses in the area who’d like us to recycle their glass bottles and plastic packaging (for free!) please contact us.

Ms. Jen W. Of O’hara Township signed up to make a difference. Listen to what inspired her to become a Green Bridge 412 member.

Why do our volunteers do what they do?
Listen to one of them tell her story — and maybe you’ll be inspired to join the movement too. 🌍
