Back to School!!!

This is an important time of year for us all: kids are getting back into their routines and we are getting them out of the house :D
As you're prepping for the start of this school year, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Communication!
Our kids experience a million things each day in school and we rarely know half of it! Here are some examples:
- What they are learning in class?
- What are their friends saying to them?
- What are they eating?
- How are they treating their friends?
- Do they feel welcomed and safe?
And the list goes on and on!

2. Transportation
Walking, biking, busing, riding in cars... Keeping track of this can be a juggling act! Take some time to think through how they are getting to school and back home and what are the expectations for that!

3. Bullying Awareness
Bullying happens everywhere and our kids are often silent about this aspect of school. Remind them that bullying is NEVER ok (giving or getting) and provide them a safe way to talk with you about these interactions with peers. When they do bring it up, don't blow your own lid! Though it is often my first instinct, my kids don't need me to get mad at their friends or teachers; they need me to help them solve the problem, which requires a calm, clear head.

4. Time Together
It's easy for us all to get overwhelmed with our school/work schedules. Don't forget that spending time together is important, even when they are busy with school, homework, and activities.

This video is a powerful reminder of my commitment to breaking generational patterns in parenting.

When my daughter gets angry, matching her energy only escalates the situation β€” leaving us both frustrated and unable to move forward. As the parent, it's my responsibility to stay regulated so I can help her regulate too.

That means either grounding myself enough to guide her through the moment, or recognizing when the best move is simply to walk away and give us both space to reset.
