We are honored to announce that BTC Center’s Planted in Homewood Community Garden has been selected as Grow Pittsburgh’s 2026 Resilient Community Growers Awardee!
Grow Pittsburgh will recognize BTC Center at the Garden Get Down on September 22 for our garden’s resilience, revitalization, and commitment to growing fresh food and cultivating community in Homewood.
With the dedication of our leaders, volunteers, neighbors, and community partners, an empty lot has become a reliable source of fresh vegetables, meaningful relationships, improved well-being, and community pride. The produce we grow—including greens, peppers, green beans, okra, turnips, Swiss chard, and eggplant—is distributed through our food pantry and community distribution days.
We extend special appreciation to LaVerne Hunt, Janet Ward, Jane Nicholson, our board members, garden volunteers, neighbors, and partners—including Grow Pittsburgh, Tree Pittsburgh, and the Carpenters Union—for helping Planted in Homewood flourish.
This recognition belongs to everyone who kept showing up, lending a hand, and believing that something beautiful could continue to grow in Homewood.
