More than $110,000 invested in their futures. And somehow, the smiles were still the biggest thing in the room. 💙

This year's Hope Through Learning Awards gave us a chance to celebrate 45 extraordinary young people who have experienced homelessness and are continuing their journeys through college, career training and other postsecondary opportunities. We also recognized Xavier Littlejohn as our Joseph Lagana Perseverance Awardee for relentlessly pursuing posting education, completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh.

Our commitment to students does not stop when they graduate from high school.

We keep walking.

We help provide financial support, technology, encouragement and community because every young person deserves the opportunity to build a future bigger than the circumstances they have experienced.

To our HTLA recipients, we hope you carry these words wherever your next chapter takes you:

Your story matters.
Your future is bright.
You belong.

We are so proud of you. 💙

Thank you donors Apartment Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, Rosemarie Abeles, Margaret Battle, Pittsburgh Indian Community & Friends - PICAF, and Dollar Bank 💙

Amazing job Cherelle Ford, Demetrius Moye and Veronica Chapman.

Thank you as always Williams Ryan. And we were blessed to have Kathy Fitzgerald masterfully coordinate this event 💙

Learning. Connecting. Growing.

That's what July looked like at HCEF.

The newest edition of HCEF: In Motion is here, featuring summer learning in action, Teen CEO students opening new doors through meaningful connections, and staff members whose leadership continues to strengthen our mission.

Every month tells another chapter of what's possible when students are surrounded by opportunity and people who believe in them.

🔥 THE NETWORK WAS NETWORKING!

Our Senior Teen CEOs, now in their third year of Teen CEO, took over Duquesne University for a morning all about the art AND science of networking!

Led by our President & CEO, AJ Jefferson, students jumped right in, finding common ground, making connections and discovering that networking isn’t nearly as scary once somebody says, “GO!”

Then AJ brought in six incredible Pittsburgh leaders and said, essentially, “Now let’s see what you’ve got!” 🔥

And our Senior Teen CEOs got to WORK.

They asked questions. Shared their stories. Made real connections. And learned firsthand that networking isn’t about collecting contacts. It’s about building relationships that can grow with you.

Because talent can prepare you for an opportunity. Relationships can help you find one.

A HUGE thank you to Mat Davis, Samantha Hartzman, Majestic Lane Lane, Piper Smith, Allie Quick and TeeJay Vision for jumping in and making it real. You showed our students what it looks like when people don’t just talk about opening doors. They show up and help open them. ❤️

THIS is Teen CEO. 🔥

We're celebrating!

Thank you to United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania for investing $135,000 over the next three years to strengthen HCEF's Childhood to Career Continuum through our Teen Outreach Programs.

Every week, our Teen Outreach Programs help students experiencing homelessness build confidence, develop leadership skills, prepare for careers, and discover what's possible beyond their current circumstances.

Thank you for believing in our young people and helping create brighter futures. 💙

A first for Pennsylvania: $10 million proposed for students experiencing homelessness.

HCEF is partnering with Representative Smith-Wade-El on this landmark bill, which would let school districts use the funds for transportation, food, and other essentials their McKinney Vento students need most.

Our Director of Community Engagement, Brian Knight, spoke with LNP + LancasterOnline about why this matters, calling it an investment that helps kids now and sets them up for a stronger future.

Over 2,000 students in Lancaster County alone qualify, 50,000+ across PA. Help us get this across the finish line.

Sometimes the most powerful stories are told through poetry.

*I AM Becoming* is an original poetry film written and performed by HCEF student Ja Cerra. Premiered at The I AM Gala presented by Dollar Bank, her words are a reminder that every young person deserves to be seen through their brilliance, not their circumstances.

Watch. Reflect. Share. 💙

Big news for Pittsburgh's students!

We're honored to announce a transformational $400,000 investment from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and Eden Hall Foundation to strengthen HCEF's Childhood-to-Career Continuum.

Together, we're expanding opportunities for children and youth experiencing homelessness from early learning through postsecondary education and workforce readiness.

Thank you for believing in the brilliance and potential of every student. 💙

Before the stories.
Before the applause.
Before the appeal.

Students answered a simple question:

Who are you?

This is how they opened The I AM Gala presented by Dollar Bank.
