Breathe Project

Breathe Project Reducing air and climate pollution for healthier communities in our region. Powered by residents, advocates, public health experts and scientists.

We use the best available science to understand the quality of the air we breathe, build public awareness and improve community health and wellness. Despite improvements over the past few decades, the air in Southwest Pennsylvania still ranks among the worst in the nation, causing serious health impacts in our communities, including higher rates of asthma, heart disease, and lung cancer. But there

are solutions. If you care about the air you breathe, we invite you to join us at the Breathe Project. It is the Breathe Project's policy not to delete comments posted by the Facebook community, though we may take exceptions when those comments involve copyright infringement, personal attacks, obscenity and/or ethnic slurs. Posts from community members do not necessarily represent the views of the Breathe Project. Comments are included as a public service in the interest of informing the public.

Congratulations to ACCAN on the 10th anniversary of the Shenango Coke Works closure!

Since the plant shut down, researchers from NYU, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Allegheny County Health Department have found dramatic health improvements in surrounding communities -including a 40% drop in pediatric asthma ER visits.

Ten years later, the data is clear: cleaner air saves lives. We're so glad your communities are breathing easier! ACCAN
