Here is a glimpse into the beautiful event that we co-hosted with on Wednesday night. Five community members were honored for their contributions to civic engagement in Arizona; the evening was filled with dancing, powerful messages, and a reminder of the hope for civility and compassion in our local civic community.

Congratulations to our local civic champions!
Tara Jackson (CEO, AZ Town Hall) - Nonprofit Impact Award

Ted Simons (AZ PBS Horizons) - Community Media Award

Bishop Eduardo Nevares (Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix) - Faith in Action Award

Kimber Lanning (Founder/CEO, ) - Business Leadership Award

Marcia Meyer (Founder/CEO, )- Civic Innovator Award

From our op-ed:
“Arizona’s future will be determined not only by its growth or its policies, but by the strength of its civic life. And that strength depends on people who are willing to engage —thoughtfully, consistently and with a sense of shared responsibility.

The good news is that this work is already happening. The invitation is to join it.”

Our MWEG team was interviewed about our stance on the proposed changes to efficiency mandates and rooftop solar incentives. Check out some of their quotes below and read the full article linked in our bio!

Our Environmental Specialist Amber Daniel said this, “in the next 15 years, it’s anticipated Arizona’s power needs will grow as much as 40%. Repealing these rules now can potentially damage our ability to meet increases in a responsible way in the future.”

MWEG member Rachel Albertson said, “we are here to take care of what we’ve been given, what God has created. There’s also the consumer side of it. I also want to bring my bills down. Conserve water as best I can. I want neighbors to be able to afford solar if they want it.”

Reminder about the upcoming Planning and Zoning Commission hearing on Thursday morning. The commission will hold a public comment period before their vote. This is a good opportunity to share the benefits of solar and battery storage. Also, please consider writing a short Letter to the Editor (LTE) of your local newspaper.

Our MWEG Arizona fearless leader, Jane Andersen, was wonderful on KTAR’s The Right to Disagree this week. A key part of our efforts at MWEG is improving media literacy. We can always be improving and evaluating the content we consume and what we bring into our homes and relationships.

This is a great opportunity to comment on the Pinal County Comprehensive Plan. Show up and let your voice be heard. Below are some great things to keep in mind and mention:

•Renewable energy projects bring billions of dollars in investment, fueling long-term economic growth in communities across the state.
•Utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage development generates millions in local tax revenue, supporting schools, roads, and emergency services—without raising taxes on residents.
•These projects create high-paying jobs in construction, engineering, operations, and maintenance—particularly in rural counties and tribal communities.

Is an EV a good investment for you? Dive into Tamora Muir’s op-ed and read about her experience. The energy credits that can make this purchase so appealing are unfortunately ending. A new EV must be purchased or under binding contract by Sept. 30 to claim a $7,500 credit for a new EV or $4,000 for a used one.

The link to her story is in our bio.

A small group of MWEG members had the unique opportunity to spend the day with Kino Border Initiative in Nogales, Mexico. This Catholic nonprofit is run by an amazing group of leaders, including Executive Director Joanna Williams and Sister Eileen McKenzie. Located just across the border, Kino Border Initiative takes a faith-based approach as they fulfill their mission: Migration with dignity.

They provide direct humanitarian assistance and holistic accompaniment of migrants and facilitate education and encounters between migrants and others that transforms people and communities towards solidarity with migrants and advocate for effective policies both in Mexico and the US.

It was a powerful experience to serve meals at Kino and sit and listen to the stories of those in need. Despite incredibly hard and discouraging circumstances, there was a positive energy in those special spaces. When Sister Engracia told us of all the challenges they confront, we asked how she keeps hope alive. Her answer, as she looked around the room into our eyes: “You. You are my hope.” Small acts of kindness and support can make all the difference! 💜💜💜
