SPADO is back after a long hiatus with new leadership team.

This group is devoted to creating a safe and healthy environment for dogs and owners to exercise, socialize, and build community through civic engagement at the Columbus Square Dog Park. Officers:

We heard you wanted some shade!

New improvements to the park include large cantelever umbrellas and several sun shades (thanks Heather Rose for installing those!). Ratchet straps to secure the umbrellas coming soon and if they hold up well in the coming weeks, we’ll get a couple more.

PLEASE help us maintain the new equipment by putting umbrellas down in windy conditions. Turn the hand crank to fold them up and squeeze the hand guard and pull down to collapse.

We’ll be hosting a Summer party on July 19th starting at 11am in an effort to fundraise money for large umbrellas inside the park - as you all know it gets quite toasty in there during the Summer. We’re hoping to raise $1500-2000 for 4-6 large 10x13ft umbrellas with heavy bases.

We’ll have pup cups, treats, pools, sprinklers, and other fun things for your pups to enjoy. Local vendors will also be there - if you’re a vendor who wants to participate, please reach out!

Happy 4th! 🇺🇸🦅

New pools on both sides of the park (including some BIG ones)! These were originally going to be for the shade fundraiser but since that’s postponed, we figured the pups needed to stay cool somehow. Be sure to drain the water using the nozzles when the water gets dirty. Have fun and stay cool!

We’ll be having our monthly board meeting at the rec center this week (Wednesday night at 6:30). Come by if you want to learn about the dog park, how you can get involved, improvements you’d like to see, etc.

As a reminder, this dog park is entirely volunteer run/maintained - we are always looking for additional support. This park will literally be closed if we don’t care for it as a community.

Look at that beautiful park! Another cleaning done. Power washed, sanitized, deodorized, literally over 100 pounds of debris removed, chicken wire up to better divide the two sides + chicken wire up along the perimeter to stop balls from rolling under the fence. A lot of work done for just 4 people in 3 hours!

Water’s officially back on!!! So we are rescheduling our May clean up to be a few weeks early - the turf is pretty gross and the park needs so attention! So this Sunday we will be doing our first full cleaning of the park - power washers, sanitizing agents, etc.

Come by and lend a hand if you can. We’ll probably be there cleaning until about 10-10:30.

As usual, no dogs in the park during this session - it’s dangerous for them (and us) with the equipment and cleaning chemicals.

Folks, thanks for coming to our meeting this week! Your input will help to shape the next year of dog park business. With summer coming up soon, our first order of business will be shade (extent varying by funding).
