One House at a Time

One House at a Time OHAAT’s mission is to help families establish (or reestablish) self-sufficient lives by providing them with the necessities of a functional home environment.

Through our Beds for Kids program we are working towards ending child & family bedlessness by providing beds and other sleep essentials to families in need in the Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties of Pennsylvania. Our current focus is ending child bedlessness. Through a program called Beds for Kids, we provide children and youth with beds, bedding, and tools that encourage healthy bedtime habits, so they can get the quality and sufficient sleep they need to thrive.

Nearly half of the children we served in 2025 were between the ages of 5 and 11.

These are school-aged kids. Kids whose ability to focus, learn, regulate their emotions, and show up every day depends in part on whether they got a good night’s sleep. For children without a bed, that’s not a given.

A bed isn’t a luxury. It’s a foundation. And in 2025, we helped 3,523 children build on it.

This quote from one of our referral partners says it better than we ever could.

In 2025, 411 referral partners trusted us with their families. Those partners are the bridge between OHAAT and the children who need us most. We’re grateful for every one of them.

This past year, OHAAT was so grateful to welcome two interns from Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School — Isabella and Jabriyah. Over the 2025–2026 school year, they dove headfirst into the Beds for Kids program, gained real work experience, and left a lasting impression on our whole team. Read about them here: https://www.ohaat.org/blog/intern-spotlight-isabella-and-jabriyah

Every Beds for Kids program delivery comes with a bedtime bag — and everything inside it is there for a reason.

A bundle of books, because a consistent reading routine signals to a child’s brain that it’s time to wind down. A stuffed animal, because for young children especially, a comfort object supports feelings of safety and security at bedtime. Warm bedding, because physical comfort is foundational to quality sleep.

For many of the families we serve, these items are the first step toward a real bedtime routine (something most of us take for granted). In 2025, OHAAT went on 268 deliveries and volunteers bundled at least 10,569 books. A good night’s sleep starts long before the lights go out.

The Quaker School at Horsham presented Volunteer & Operations Coordinator April with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the Beds for Kids program — a meaningful recognition of the relationship we've built together. We're grateful for the partnership we've created in service of children across our region.

Did you know OHAAT served families in 113 zip codes across 5 counties in 2025?

78% of the children we served live in Philadelphia , but child bedlessness reaches well beyond city limits. We also served families in Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, and Chester Counties.

Our mission is simple: no child in Greater Philadelphia should go without a bed.

Toni strikes again! 🛏️✨

If you know Toni, you know she's basically a one-woman supply chain for the Beds for Kids program. She volunteers, she donates, she shops — and apparently, she's contagious.

When her friends Vicki & Patti spotted her Beds for Kids activity online, they didn't just cheer her on. One went out and bought a pile of bedding items to donate. Another handed over money so Toni could do what Toni does best: shop for kids who need a good night's sleep.

That's the ripple effect in action. One dedicated person in your network can move everyone around her.

Thank you, Toni — and thank you to your amazing friends.
