We wrapped up the latest Home Strong session today at GACM. Home Strong is a collaboration between The Urban Resources Development Corporation - URDC, Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry (GACM), the UUH Outreach Program (UUH Outreach), and Face to Face Germantown to help senior homeowners in northwest Philadelphia learn about ways to continue living in their homes safely and securely, as well as to preserve the wealth in their home asset for their family. Neighbors who participate in the program qualify for a grant toward home repairs.

Presenters included Morgan Adams of Penn Memory Center and David Grant of Premier Insurance Advisors. The next session starts October 27. For more information, contact us at [email protected].

Joining our partners from and 's "A Better Start" program, Tobie and Lori from Philadelphia Neighborhood Networks - PNN joined us to register voters and answer questions about voting locations.

📢 Food Cupboard Schedule Update

Please note that Thursday, August 13 will be GACM’s final Food Cupboard Thursday before a short break.

The Food Cupboard will be CLOSED on August 20 and August 27 and will reopen on Thursday, September 3.

GACM is thrilled to share that we were recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust.

These funds are providing critical emergency housing assistance for our Germantown neighbors in need. Each year, GACM helps hundreds of seniors, adults, and families navigate some of the most challenging moments in their lives. This generous grant from the W.W. Smith Charitable Trust will allow GACM to support even more of our neighbors in Germantown on their road to self-sufficiency by providing emergency rent, mortgage, and utility assistance grants as well as education and support accessing additional community resources.

With support from Senator Art Haywood’s Mobile Office, Weavers Way Co-op - helping neighbors enroll in Food For All memberships - and the Jefferson Health/Einstein team, who shared helpful nutrition information and recipes, GACM served more than 120 households.

The number of households relying on the Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry's Food Cupboard has grown by over 50% since last summer - caused by additional restrictions on SNAP eligibility as well as exponentially increasing food prices.
