The HOPE Project continues to make great progress toward improving the geriatric center in Batey Soco, Dominican Republic.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of DOCARE members, supporters, and community partners, the project has now raised $3,510 toward its $4,000 fundraising goal. Funds will be used to complete critical repairs and safety improvements at the center, while also providing essential medical equipment and daily living supplies for the residents.

The project team is preparing for its December service trip, where these improvements will be implemented to create a lasting impact for the elderly residents who call the center home.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared the mission, and supported this effort. Every contribution is helping bring the project one step closer to its goal and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents.

DOCARE CELEBRATES AMERICA 250 🇺🇸

Today DOCARE honors the service of Daniel Eugene Williams, MD

As a newly graduated physician in an Internal Medicine Residency I needed to make choices about military service in the early 70’s. I enlisted in the USAF with the plan to transfer to the Michigan Air National Guard. While in the Air Force, I attended Aerospace Medicine training and then transitioned to the Michigan Air National Guard (ANG). In the ANG, I was able to volunteer to attend Flight Surgeon training in Ohio and the Arizona desert.

My responsibility as a Flight Surgeon, was to observe while on the ground and in the airplane, the competency, mental and emotional stability of the ANG pilots. All the while maintaining a full time practice as a Hemotology/Oncologist. At the required age of 55, I resigned from ANG and continued to practice until the end of 2019.

DOCARE CELEBRATES AMERICA 250 🇺🇸

Today DOCARE honors the service of Terrence Johnson, PhD.

My commitment to DOCARE International and the services it provides throughout the world to those in need has its beginnings in my earlier experiences of providing care. As a combat veteran in Vietnam 1968-69 I worked very closely with the Vietnamese people, both military and civilian. As they began to trust me, they let me into the inner workings of their lives. They took me to the orphanage where the devastation of war over many years had left so many children and adolescents alone, severely wounded and having no one, except for one another and the nuns who looked after them. I began taking them expired canned goods from our unit. They were so excited when I would come and provide them with the provisions they needed so badly. What they didn’t know was what they gave to me with their smiles and hugs. I am forever grateful to have that experience with them.

The next experience that formed my commitment to service was after the war. My PTSD and experiences of war led me to go to a Trappist monastery for a year. In 1972, when Mother Teresa was going to be speaking before Congress, she stopped at the monastery for a retreat. When the Abbott told her about my journey to come to the monastery, she wanted to meet me. She sat across the table, held my hands, and thanked me for being there. Here she is, a nun of profound humility, who provides loving care to those who have no one and have nothing.

These experiences led me to becoming a clinical psychologist and providing care for many years to others in need.

Today DOCARE honors the service of MAJ Erica Eldon, D.O.

Dr. Eldon was nominated by Dr. Brian Zylinski.

MAJ Eldon is an outstanding ambassador of the Army, the pain management specialty, osteopathic medicine, and medicine in general.  She has 20+ years of military service (and counting), has been deployed/mobilized numerous times, and is currently serving in the 322nd Medical Detachment in Utica, New York as a medical officer in the Army Reserve.  She always comes to monthly battle assemblies (BAs) well-prepared and highly enthusiastic.  She has given numerous presentations on pain management- and osteopathic medicine-related topics to military and civilian audiences.  She has served as the Deputy Commander of the 322nd Medical Detachment for multiple BAs.  She is a wonderful mentor to junior officers and enlisted soldiers.  She is highly deserving of this recognition, especially on the 250th birthday of our great country.
