Since 1988, the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC) has been growing and developing Oklahoma's visual arts community through education, promotion, connection, and funding. OVAC enriches communities by encouraging individual artists’ gifts and abilities, believing that artists contribute to vibrant community lives with positive changes in neighborhoods, public spaces, economies and education. Each year, OVAC serves more than 1,700 artists directly through professional development and business training, opportunities to exhibit their work and connect with new audiences, and targeted funding to encourage professional excellence and public ventures. OVAC helps enrich Oklahoma communities because of and through artists.

We are just ONE day away from the ! Lets welcome 12x12 Artists Gregg Standridge and Gayle L. Curry!

✨ Oklahoma based Choctaw/Cherokee artist, Gregg Standridge, has been creating since 1979. A polymath who has made over 4000 wood art pieces, 14 original music albums, written/produced a full length musical and a novel, Gregg is constantly finding new ways to create. His themes include indigenous subject matter, fantasy and social justice. His current technique of hand cut wood marquetry is influenced by his love of the old Japanese wood block masters such as Katsushika Hokusai. Gregg was a 2023 Thrive Grant recipient through the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition and The Andy Warhol Foundation.

✨ Gayle is an Oklahoma artist and designer whose work has been exhibited throughout the state, including the Oklahoma State Capitol and Gaylord-Pickens Museum. She was commissioned to create an installation for the Samis Education Center at the University of Oklahoma, selected for the Oklahoma Arts Council Leadership Arts Program, and served as the 2015–2016 Skirvin Hilton Artist in Residence. Gayle works from Studio Six Gallery in Oklahoma City’s historic Paseo Arts District, where she creates expressive encaustic paintings using layers of beeswax, pigment, texture, and movement. Her work explores energy, emotion, memory, and transformation.

Two more days until the ! Let's welcome Trent Lawson, Tammy Brummell, and Amanda Cole!

✨ Trent is an artist working in Oklahoma City. He paints whimsical, irreverent pop culture mash-ups on velvet. Low-brow concepts meet high-brow ex*****on. When he's not procrastinating in the studio, Trent works to install exhibitions at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. And a gentle reminder: nine out of ten rainbows are illiterate.

✨ Tammy is an established Oklahoma-based artist and designer known for her rich, multi-layered mixed media work. Grounded in fine art and design, her practice centers on collage, weaving together fabric, paper, graphite, ink, watercolor, and acrylic to create expressive, tactile visual stories.

✨ Amanda's work breaks down scenes from the nature around us into simpler forms through colorful acrylics.

🌿 Learn more about Grant Project, 'Toci' by Alicia Smith 🌿

'Toci' is a 7 part video art piece that tells the story of a group of Aztec women who escape the colonization of Mexico by flying a pyramid to Mars and establishing a space colony there, with the help of their Gods, plants, animals, and insects who accompanied them. Chapter 4: The Mushroom bearers is the centerpiece of the project and celebrates Two-Spirit medicine traditions and kinships ties from Oklahoma, to Mexico, and beyond.

✨ Meet Kristin Bybee from OKC, Oklahoma–our October Spotlight !

Kristin is an OKC-based multidisciplinary artist and the creator of Art by Kbee. Her work centers on sustainability and creative reuse, incorporating secondhand and reclaimed materials to give discarded objects new life through art. In addition to her studio practice and exhibitions throughout OKC, Kristin owns and operates two art vending machines, creating an unconventional and accessible way for people to discover and collect original work from local artists. Through both her personal practice and community-focused projects, she is interested in challenging traditional ideas of where art belongs, what it can be made from, and how people experience it.

As an OVAC Member, Kristin is part of a statewide network of artists, advocates and arts workers connected through resources, opportunities, and support that help creative practices grow in Oklahoma.

Lets welcome Artists Margaret Aycock, Cassa Shafer, and Madeline Dillner!

✨Margaret Aycock is a representational painter with a painterly leaning in the style of the American Post Impressionists. She grew up in the mountains of New York, but has lived in Oklahoma since the late 70s. It was her time living in nature that continues to influence her work, the thread of which connects her artistic endeavors, civic engagement, and her daily life. Subject matter for Margaret’s work, much of which is done en plein aire, Includes the Osage prairie skies, Tahlequah farm land, still lifes featuring flowers from her garden, and portraits of her friends and family.

✨ Cassa is a mixed media artist in Edmond, Oklahoma. After spending much of her life around musicians, involved in dance and textile arts, she found herself using color as a mechanism for understanding and dealing with her mental health. Cassa approaches art with an experimental mindset, finding ways to connect her nature-based faith and her exploration of mental health to a variety of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, foiling, and textiles. She can regularly be found engaging in the arts community in Oklahoma City as a volunteer for various arts events.

✨ As a perpetual tourist, Madeline absorb every scene, sound, and scent to which the locals have gone numb. Madeline's ADHD brain gobbles up the electric newness, and from her hands come wild-colored paintings that turn the viewer into a wonderstruck tourist, dazzled by the beauty of landscapes near and far.

The is just THREE days away! Have you gotten your tickets yet? 👀 Lets welcome Irmgard Geul, Allison Stacey, and Michelle Metcalfe!

✨ Irmgard is a Netherlands-born, Oklahoma-based mixed-media artist whose contemporary landscapes explore place, memory, and the beauty of everyday surroundings. Working with acrylic paint, photography, hand embroidery, and loose thread, she transforms overlooked scenes—trees, wildflowers, country roads, and fragments of rural life—into layered, tactile works that invite a closer look. Growing up in the Netherlands and living in rural Oklahoma, Geul draws inspiration from two landscapes that have shaped her sense of home and belonging. Her connection to textiles began with her mother, a haute couture seamstress, and continues today through her distinctive combination of paint and fiber.

✨ Allison is and OKC based artist focused on exploring one's journey through life using Relief Printing, Painting, and a collaboration with organic materials. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in Art and Minor in Film and Media Studies. Allison currently serves as the Interim Marketing and Membership manager for Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition.

✨ The Paseo Arts District artist Michelle is a co-owner of Studio 6, where she creates expressive encaustic and mixed media works inspired by texture, movement, and transformation. Drawn to the unpredictable beauty of fire and wax, her encaustic process layers molten wax, pigment, and found materials into richly dimensional pieces. Michelle’s mixed media approach blends intuition and experimentation, resulting in art that feels both organic and deeply personal. Through her work, she invites viewers to experience the connection between creativity, emotion, and the transformative power of artistic exploration.

🌟 OVAC MEMBER NEWS - Party Walls: Rotating Gallery Commemoration in EDO

This event celebrates the installation of the murals created during Ink the Block 2026 in The Lot in EDO.

This new rotating mural initiative is called "Party Walls." In construction, a party wall is a shared structural wall that sits directly between two separate properties and is the shared responsibility of both owners to maintain. In this instance, Party Walls refers to the responsibility of making space for public art and providing visible platforms for artists. 4 Oklahoma muralists were selected to paint during Ink the Block Party and the pieces themselves will have a new home that tells the story of how they came to be and spreads the joy of public art further than one day.

WHAT IS HAPPENING

We'll have live music from Later Laine and Will Gibson, community mural painting on a modular mural wall, with community art supplies; brushes, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles! There will be a drawing to win a custom original 2x2ft painting from Julius for anyone who completes the EDO Business Passport.

THE PASSPORT (Available in EDO Businesses starting September 10)

Pick up a stamp card from any participating EDO business. Get a stamp from each. Bring the completed card back to the lot before 8:30 PM during the Party Walls event and you are entered to win a custom painting from Julius! Must have at least 4 stamps to be officially in the drawing. The neighboring businesses are the reason East downtown is such a cool place to be and we are collaborating with them to put on this celebration of Norman's new rotating mural experience.

✨ Ostara has been a DJ in the Oklahoma City area since 2000, bringing her passion for music with soul into versatile, high-energy sets. Known for blending break beats, house, electro, trance, and more, she creates engaging performances that move audiences. Beyond the stage, she gives back through artistic and charitable foundations, providing music and event coordination for organizations such as RAINN, MMRF, Rampage Artists, and The Girlie Show. Her professionalism and dynamic style have taken her to venues and festivals across Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and California, as well as corporate events, private parties, and art openings.

✨ Kora Waves is an Oklahoma City based DJ and event curator whose passion for music was inspired by her father, a former DJ who spun mainly disco and funk in the nightclubs of his hometown, Accra, Ghana. Growing up surrounded by Ghana highlife, reggae, disco, funk, soul, and jazz, Kora developed a rich and diverse musical taste that continues to shape her sound today. Over the years she has held residencies and showcased her eclectic blend of genres at local festivals and venues throughout OKC and neighboring states. Kora takes her musical journey even further on platforms like SoundCloud, where she hosts Dive Deep Radio, a space for exploring her extensive catalogue and discovering fresh new sounds. From global beats to electronica, deep house, creative remixes and more, her mixes are a sonic adventure that invites listeners to dive deep into the ever-evolving world of music.
