The human body has responses in place to fight viral infections. However, a mutation in a single gene may alter the normal response and instead promote autoimmune diseases like lupus.

With a new grant, OMRF scientist Dr. Jacquelyn Gorman will investigate this mutation. Her study ultimately could lead to more effective treatments for lupus, which has no known cure.

OMRF patients celebrated World MS Day over the weekend with creativity and community! 🎨🦋

Guided by local artist Anthony Pego of Wine and Palette, about 20 people, primarily patients, created individual acrylic paintings of the orange monarch butterfly — a widely recognized symbol of MS awareness, hope and transformation.

49 students will visit OMRF monthly throughout the 2026-27 school year to meet with philanthropic leaders from Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. They also will spend time in OMRF’s labs, learn about how nonprofit organizations function, and develop an understanding of the impact charitable giving makes on a community.
