Independence Day 2026 | Celebrating Freedom, Health & Community
+ + +

This Independence Day, Project Well celebrated the spirit of freedom and community through another meaningful edition of Rongin Pholer Jhuri. 🇮🇳🍎🍌
Two teams came together to spread joy and promote healthy eating among children during the Mid-Day Meal:
📍 Jashaikathi FP Primary School, Baduria, North 24 Parganas
📍 Dumuria FP Primary School, Chakdah, Nadia
Children at both schools received fresh fruit salad and sweets, turning the Independence Day celebrations into a colourful and healthy experience. 🍉🍎🍌
At Jashaikathi FP School, we also handed over a weight machine for the children, supporting regular monitoring of their growth and well-being. ⚖️👧👦
The celebrations continued with the ribbon-cutting and inauguration of a Bi-Tech Well, strengthening our commitment to providing access to safe and sustainable arsenic safe drinking water for the school children. 💧🌱
The day was further enriched with flag hoisting and cultural programmes, bringing together children, teachers and the community in the true spirit of Independence. 🇮🇳🎉
For Project Well, Independence means more than a celebration — it means working towards a future where every child has access to safe water, better health, nutrition and opportunities to grow.

Awareness programs, conducted in the form of Health Meetings, are an integral part of our program. These meetings aim to regularly educate and sensitise both consumers and non-consumers across communities, schools, and families on arsenic contamination and its associated health risks, along with other common health concerns such as dengue, viral flu, diarrhea, and waterborne diseases.
During the monsoon season, particular emphasis is placed on water contamination caused by impurities and the prevention of dengue, as these are among the major health concerns affecting the local population.
The following are the Health Meetings conducted across Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts in the Chakdah, Gaighata, and Baduria blocks.

Health Meetings on Arsenic, Water Contamination, and Dengue were conducted across the Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts, focusing on raising awareness among families, communities, and school children.

"Water, People Can Trust"

One of the most critical yet often unseen aspects of maintaining a safe water source is seasonal bacteriological testing. While a well may appear clean and clear to the naked eye, harmful microbial contamination cannot be detected without scientific analysis.

At Project Well, regular bacteria testing forms an integral part of our maintenance protocol. Much like many essential services that work quietly behind the scenes, this process has low visibility but an exceptionally high impact. Seasonal testing enables us to monitor water quality, identify wells that are safe for human consumption, and take timely action wherever necessary.

As long as bacterial levels remain within the permissible limits prescribed for drinking water, the source is considered safe for consumption. Through this proactive approach, Project Well ensures that communities receive not just access to water, but access to water they can trust.

This year marks our association with Dumuria FP School at Chakdah, Nadia.
The school has a student strength of 148. While we were exploring a new site for a school initiative, we came across Dumuria FP School. Interestingly, the school was also in urgent need of a permanent and safe drinking water solution for its students. It felt like a timely and meaningful alignment.
Over the next three months, we carried out initial testing and construction work. Today, we are proud to formally welcome the children of Dumuria FP School into our extended family, having worked together to ensure access to safe and secure drinking water for them.

Under the spirit of World Environment Day 2026, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, our initiative “Rongin Pholer Jhuri” reflects the same message in action—learning from nature to build a healthier and more sustainable future. As part of this on-ground initiative, we organized a fruit distribution drive for the students of St. Anne's School, Kamdevkati, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
The core objective was to raise awareness among children about the importance of consuming fresh fruits as a natural, healthy alternative to junk food. Each child was given a mango, along with a brief interactive session highlighting its nutritional benefits and the value of seasonal, locally available foods. Through this simple yet meaningful step, we tried to connect children back to nature’s own way of nurturing health.
Change is not instant, but consistent efforts like these help shape awareness and habits over time. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day—nor is a healthier planet.
“Rongin Pholer Jhuri” continues its journey, inspired by nature, for climate, and for our shared future. 🌿
