Meet Katie Castles Shaffer and Val Haas Reilly, this year’s Holly Ball Co-Chairs!

💙Katie: Being a member of the Cancer League empowers me to turn the loss of my son into a meaningful fight against cancer. Holly Ball is our largest annual fundraiser, which allows us to grant hundreds of thousands of dollars to groundbreaking cancer research right here in the Bay Area. I am so proud to be co-chairing Holly Ball this year with one of my dearest friends. We promise an unforgettable night of high energy, big impact, and a shared mission to find a cure!

🧡Val: Fundraising for The Cancer League is deeply important because it provides critical seed funding for early-stage, high-risk cancer research projects in the Bay Area. This financial support fills a vital gap by helping promising researchers secure the initial data and proof-of-concept needed to qualify for larger grants and accelerate breakthroughs. Because cancer has affected close family and dear friends, this cause is deeply important to me.

In 1973, a group of East Bay women decided cancer research couldn’t wait. 53 years later, Holly Ball still gives 100% of proceeds to cancer research.

This year, we’re honoring the women who started it all — and the generations who have carried their mission forward.

A little Holly Ball history: Pictured here are Bob and Mary Lou Weggenmann. Mary Lou was one of the Cancer League’s founders, and today her daughter, Janet, carries the tradition as past President and current Historian.✨
